He seemed to be talking over her head, something she disliked. "If you are inquiring about my virtue, my lord, I assure you it is still intact," she said dryly. "Only a few scrapes and bruises from a fall, and otherwise I am quite well."

"I am glad to hear it." replied Rycherd, turning to Arania. "There is more to it than that though. You have no other injuries?"

She shook her head. "I do feel rather foolish. Amelia Royce and I walked straight into that trap."

"You were seeing more of the world?" Rycherd asked drily, with a hint of a smile on his lips.

"A bit more, you could say. Now I've seen men die and I've seen friends hurt. I shouldn't like to see such things again," she said, looking at her hands and feeling rather contrite.

"It is not a pleasant business." replied Rycherd gravely. "The books that talk about great deeds of chivalry and noble deaths never seem to reflect the reality."

"No, they don't." She sat there quietly, not looking up at Tyrell or her father. She was remembering the crunch of the Limper's leg under the mace. "But there were no noble deaths last night."

"Lord Tyrell, I should say my daughter has brought up quite enough of her horrible experience for one morning. I can assure you, that old and sick or not, Beric Hightower always repays a wrong, and I have been informed the perpetrators of this...deed have paid in spades for their crimes." Beric's voice gains strength as he talks.

"Meghan Lannister is dead." replied Rycherd to both Beric and Arania. "The consequences of this are yet to be played out, but war is a possibility. Therefore I need to know the exact circumstances of what happened."

"I don't think the prince did it, or at least not without good reason," she blurted out. "I don't think war will be necessary, but who knows what King Kyle will think."

"Exactly." said Rycherd approvingly. " And therefore in order to avoid war I need to advise my cousin appropriately. I can't do that without knowing the facts. Why do you think the Stark princeling didn't kill Meghan?"

She realized she hadn't a good reason. She shrugged. "He doesn't seem the type. He is a scholar as well as a swordsman, and I think he would be reluctant to do violence, especially to poor, sweet Meghan."

"Then why has he been accused, and by who?" asked Rycherd.
"Surely there must be some logical reason why men think he killed Meghan?"

"I don't know, I wasn't there," said Arania irritably. "I have only heard rumors and whispers, same as you have heard of my ordeal, no doubt. Perhaps you should ask someone who was an eyewitness. Ser Hollis Clegane, perhaps? I have heard he was involved."

"Clegane." mused Rycherd.
For a long moment he studied the seated girl in front of him without saying anything, his features remaining impassive. Finally he seemed to make a decision.
"Very well Arania Hightower, I shall trouble you no further."
