Robyn arrived back with the scouts accompanied by her Husband, Kalvin. "Let's do this shit."

The scouts set out, two hundred strong, light armored, traveling fast. Kalvin frowns. "No one's ever been so far north, this river is sort of a border, I hear."

Crowl is with the scouting forces. "The Thenn's home is still to the north of us. We aren't at the edge of the world just yet."

it was bloody freezing. Robyn was used to the cold... but she was not physically built for this. "well then, if we make it back we can claim to be the first" she said, smiling, a thick fur coat around her. She almost wished she'd brought Shadow... he'd have kept her warmer.
"The sooner we find a way to surprise the Others... the better, but we'd best find them... Scouts?"

As they pass along the edge of the foothills, to the east is a vast, empty, nearly endless plain of flat white, an occasional mountain cap poking from it. They seem to be on the edge of some sort of giant ice field. The white-grey clouds blend with the white snow and ice of the ground, making landmark identification difficult.

Crowl pulls out several small bladders from beneath his furs and hands them around. "Blood and fat mixed together. Keeps you warm and can act as markers of where we've been by letting them leak onto the ground. As long as the wind doesn't pick up to cover the tracks we'll be alright. Hopefully." He adds the last word as an afterthought.

Lord Stark nods. "Good. We move northeast now, onto the ice field. Get boot spikes ready and watch out for each other!"

Crowl puts on his ice boots and guides those who who haven't ever put them on before. "Walk softly over the ice, try to spread your weight around." He says as he embarks onto the ice field.

Several of the westerners will accompany the scouts. Uhtred is among them. He had not laid true eyes on these walkers yet. The ice walkers bemused him at first, but gingerly stepping ok the snow and ice he had to admit they worked.

Robyn took to the ice like a duck to water, she'd worn the boots before so was used to them, and being light and fleet footed made her logolas walking on snow to their gimli's getting their beards iced.
She kept close to her husband still, but not too close, Kalvin was pure muscle and if he cracked the ice she needed to leap into action a save him, not fall in herself.
"So I go first? To find a safer route?"

"Go for it," he said. "Take this rope so if you slip we can bring you back. Jackson nock an arrow and do over watch!" He points to Uhtred. "You and the Crowl are with me in the front if they show up."

Uhtred nods and follows. The disguise he had thrown up should keep from being recognized here, but his voice he was unsure about.

Robyn took some rope and went a fair ways ahead, just again to keep them out of the cracking zone.
Progress was fairly slow for Robyn, listening for cracks with each step, as the ice holding her weight was not necessarily an indication it would hold anyone elses.

For Uhtred: The farther north you go the less fire magic works, so your skills are closing in on useless unless an active fire is burning.
After several hours, the scouts come across a lonely mountain top projecting from the ice field, only the last sixty feet or so visible. Robyn swears she sees things moving about on it. After a bit longer, she sees that the south side of it has a sort of crystal gate leading into the mountain.

"That is not creepy at all." Crowl states, "Though looks somewhat inviting." He adds sarcastically.
