Biography
The third son of his father, Donnel never expected the lordship. He had brothers, who had sons, who all came before him in inheritance. But the chaos of the last decade has conspired to place Donnel in the ruling seat of the Dun Fort. His first brother died with his family while at court when Drogon burned Dragonstone. His second brother, a fervent follower of Aaron Baratheon and the Red God, listened to the word of Jonas Rivers and sacrificed his own child to bring about victory for R'llor. He died with his king at Storms End. And thus the seat was passed onto Donnel, the almost maester.
With a apparent surplus of heirs, Donnel was never intended to rule or hold lands, and was instead sent to the Citadel to take up the mantle of Maester. During his time there and before, he had the unfortunate tendency to run his mouth, and he educated... vigorously to keep his mouth shut. This developed in a tendency for Rykker to be a man of relative few words, but the voice inside his head had no such filter. So he became a quiet and hardworking student at the Citadel. Apparently. However, he only forged two chains in his time there, that of iron, for warcraft, and platinum, for architecture. It was with the tragedy at Dragonstone that his family recalled him before he could forge more, mayaps seeing the need they would have of him later on. He was never a knight, but fought and defended duskendale while his brother followed Aaron wherever he would go. It is to his shame that he has never achieved knighthood, but he is a man grown now and will not squire while his people still need him, and will instead serve. Seeing the madness of the Red Priests, he is a devout follower of the Seven, returning to the roots of his grandfather.
During the wars, he fought off 3 minor sieges of Duskendale, and every time proved his worth. His knowledge of conventional combat however, is completely theoretical. He knows books and tomes on warfare, but little of the open field. It is the trebuchet and fortifications that he has practical knowledge of, and that is what he has focused on turning Duskendale into a fortress. During the wars and in the last 4 years, he has acted as the acting Warden of the Kingsroad, hunting down bandits and keeping the peace of the great highway. He is particularly suited to fast attack with calvalry, the few knights he retains allowing him to decimate any highwaymen hoping to form. Small engagements provided the experience he has.
Service has always been his aim, whether as Maester, Commander, or Lord. With the overthrow of Baratheon he bent the knee to his new King, Killion of House Greyjoy. He has quietly served and might be notable for being one of the few crownland lords who has whispered no words of dissent in the dark. His ruler has allowed the worship of the Seven, and he swore a oath. That's enough for him.
Reputation
None whatsoever. He's a relatively new lord, who's worked to set his town to order and to keep his head down under his new masters. He has kept the Kingsroad safe for the last 6 years, but that is the extent of what he is known for.
