Sara nodded. "I learned from you," she said. "I made friends with violent men who are nearby. I hope you find love, one day," she said.

Morgan's cheeks turned pink and she gazed down into her glass. It was almost empty now.
"I have found love," she said, so quietly Sara could barely hear her. "But I can't marry him."

Sara arched an eyebrow. "Empowering, falling in love with a man who possesses a harem of our kin," she said.

Morgan drained her glass then called for more wine.
"You know, I don't think he does. From what I heard, some of their lords have half a dozen salt wives, but I think Quentyn only had one or two. It's not so different from a lord having a mistress, I suppose. Though I don't exactly approve of it, because the women don't get a choice in the matter." She sighed. "But it doesn't matter. He has a real wife too, a rock wife. And his god is wrong."

"Maybe they're all wrong," she said. "I suspect the girls he took as a salt wife felt much like you did during your tribulation. Only it never ends for them."

"I suppose so." She went quiet as the servant brought them a bottle of wine. When the girl was gone, she said "Quentyn was kind to me when we sailed together. But I can't speak for his countrymen. They probably are as bad as the old tales say."
She sipped at her wine.
"I don't think any man would even want to marry me, now. How could I even let a man see the scars on my back? It would be too shameful."

Sara shrugged. "I've left scars on a few men's backs," she said. "Pain is a part of life. Someone as smart as you should be valued."

Morgan wondered that Sara could speak so confidently of her trysts when she was still embarrassed to talk about her sole lover, since she knew that unmarried ladies weren't supposed to have lovers at all.
"I think I've better chance of being valued for my knowledge than as a wife," she said. "But that doesn't bother me. I've never really been interested in marriage. I like being free to follow my own path. I'd hate to be subject to a husband's demands now I've tasted freedom. In Dorne they have paramours and nobody thinks ill of that, but we are not in Dorne. So I think my chances of meeting a man I like better than Quentyn are very slim and I shan't settle for less."

"Well at least we live in interesting times,@ she said. "So ravenry then. Then library hunting."

"Yes, definitely. The ravens peck when you feed then, so be sure to wear gloves if you don't want sore hands," Morgan warned. "But they are so funny with the silly things they say. Though it does get a little tiresome hearing them cry "Corn" every five minutes." She drank some more wine. "But the library will be quiet."
