Morgan glanced briefly around the room. Her heart soared at the announcement and she let out a squeal of joyous relief. "Thank you! Thank you!" She had to fight back the urge to hug Harlan. "I'm most greateful," she said, closing her fingers carefully around the box.

"Well, celebrate tonight," he said. "You have the next four days off, then it's back to study. That isn't even a necklace for a mouse," he said, a faint smile present.

She smiled back at him. "Oldtown wasn't built in a day. I'm happy I've made a start. I'll take some time to relax, then I'll have to catch up with my work in the library as well. Thank you."

Morgan frowned. "I won my first link," she said. "That's something to be proud of. I'm the second woman to do so in the history of the Citadel. That's an achievement."

"They'll remember me," Morgan insisted. "I was the first woman to arrive and the one who fought hardest to get here." She had wondered more than once if she'd have beaten Sarah to the honour of the first link forged if certain of the maesters hadn't tried to drive her away. But instead she said "At least I have my link, even though it took longer than I wanted. You don't seem to value our purpose here. Are you one of Lady Hightower's guests? I'm afraid I don't know your name."

Sara arrives just then. "Did you pass?" She asks excitedly.

Morgan broke into a big smile. "Yes! Oh Sara, part of me thought it wouldn't ever happen." She impulsively hugged Sara. "Let's have a drink."

As they walked, Morgan said "Do you hear much from the Westerlands these days? I miss it sometimes, but I know this is where I'm meant to be."
