"Ser Jacob." Morgan smiled at the young man and gave him a quick scrutiny, trying to decide if he and Sara were simply friends, or something more. "I'm Morgan Brax," she said, hopeful for a better clue about the young man's identity. "How is it that you come to be here in Oldtown? You are clearly not an acolyte or a novice."

"No," he said, "I'm Lady Arania's cousin via a convoluted family tree," he said with a chuckle. "Jacob Cuy. Very nice to meet you," he said. "I've heard you're the only other woman who wants to learn from the first class. My lady has much higher hopes for th evolunteers incoming from across the kingdom."

"there are volunteers now? I hope Sara and I will get to meet them." Morgan's voice was eager, she wasn't particularly close to any of the other women from the Westerlands who currently inhabited the Citadel. Volunteers sounded like a much more interesting prospect. At least she'd be able to have a proper conversation about her studies with women who actually wanted to be pleasant. "Well, that's good news, she said."

"Yes," he said. "Should start arriving in the next few weeks for the next start of classes. "They shouldn't be segregated, I don't think." He goes to get some more drinks. Sara smiled. "He's a nice lad, really. Not sure how smart he is, but he's pleasant enough and he is a far cry from the other adepts," she said.

"How do you mean?" Morgan asked. "What makes him different? Because he doesn't object to women being here?"

"In part," she said. "But he also understands that there is more to women than an organ between our legs,@ she said. "It is rather nice, being treated like an equal for once. Even if technically I'm better than him at about everything."

Morgan burst into giggles at that. "You really are very clever," she said. "Poor Ser Jacob has no chance against your brain. But he seems pleasant enough, I grant you, and I'm glad to know he is willing to look past tradition where we women are concerned. Between us, we'll show the whole world what women can do." She thought for a moment. "Quentyn is a little like that, you know. He grew up in a world where women are just a man's brood mare or else a plaything, yet he was willing to help me take my chances in the male world of the Citadel."
She sipped her drink then she said boldly "Perhaps our gallant Ser Jacob dreams of a clever wife," she teased.

"He will be a sad man then," she said. "I want a rich husband," she winked. "But he is harmless and fun and I like him for now. You need more friends, my dear."

"I know. Perhaps I'll make friends with the new women," Morgan said hopefully. "I always feel like the Western girls don't understand me, and I'm still a bit wary of being too friendly with some of the men. The last thing I want is to have one of the men trying to seduce me. I've no time for that, even if it was what I wanted. And it's really not, anyway."

"Well it is getting cold," she joked. "Best way to keep warm, but you're right. Hence my seeking friends outside the Citadel," she said. "Write your family lately?"

"Not for a few weeks, but I'll be writing to them about my success." Morgan grinned. "At least now they'll know it was worth my time to come here. I suppose I should also try to get to know the people at the Hightower better as well. I meant to, but I got sucked into my studies."
But one of Sara's comments niggled at her. "Sara, you haven't gone to bed with any of the other students, have you? Only...well, I thought you were a maiden."

"I'm not a maiden," she said. "But I'd bed a Stormlander before I lay with any of these adepts," she said. "I have it on good authority there is one area of study that all of them fail the test at," she joked.

Morgan giggled again. "who told you that?" She sipped her wine. "But who was your lover then, if not one of the men here? Surely not Ser Jacob."
She thought longingly of Quentyn. Some nights she missed him desperately but she couldn't imagine taking any other man as a lover.

"Every whore in Oldtown," she said. "I lost my heart to a man before the war, but he is gone now," she said. "For now my body's satisfaction has to do."

"I hope no septon ever hears you say that," Morgan whispered. "Just be careful, won't you? That's how those awful men go to me. And they were lying, too. It's really put me off ever wanting a lover, unless I truly loved the man. As for marriage, well, I am determined that nothing but the deepest love could ever induce me into matrimony." She smiled sweetly and took another drink.
