Terrence thinks a moment. "Asking to ally with the Ironborn now will make them scent blood in the water, and they will frenzy. Vhagus Blackfyre has nothing to offer us, not with his army thousands of miles away. And, there are some allies you can afford to have become enemies. Vhagus is not one of them. When he breaks the alliance, it will be when we need his help the most." He takes one of Ben's maps. "We can use this Vulture King's ambitions to finish off most of King Rycherd's support, I think. King Brynden may have failed at taking Highgarden, but the Reach army is split and weakened and their lords will appeal for aid in repelling the Ironborn." He looks to his son. "Our strength will reform, and men shall have to rise to replace those who have fallen."

"Vhagus has a dragon, father," Benjen replied, almost a chiding smirk on his face. "I will speak with Prince Killion and see what he has to say. Amelia has a way of contacting him." He thought for a moment.
"There may be another avenue, though it'd take a little longer. The Free Folk. What do we know of them?"

"Prince Arrogant will bleed his people out and choke on conquest and rapine soon enough. Our enemies despise each other as much as us. We will hang back and let them tear themselves apart. Seeking an alliance now of such predtors will reek of desperation, and nothing stirs a shark so much as blood in the water." He thinks on his other question. "The wildlings? Very little. Why?"

"Because they might be a valuable asset," Benjen answered. "The North has lost a lot of men and will need repopulating. If the Wildlings fight for us they will be allowed to settle in the North." He took a sip of water. "Depending on Kal Stark."

"If you raise ten thousand men Kalvin will have no issue," he said. "Though I am curious what sort of soldiers they would make." He thinks. "It will require a special brand of diplomacy."

"If they have giants and mammoths then the walls ofKing's Landing will shake," Benjen replied, nodding. "I will be bringing the Crowl with me. I am sure the Free Folk will appreciate his cannibalistic diplomacy."

"Finally, something to give the Skaags something productive to do," he said, "Crowl can take his time. I need you back as soon as possible. The war will not end while you're on this quest."

"I will stay North as long as I need to secure the support of the Free Folk," Benjen responded. "Kal Stark can handle himself, we both know that. We will need Durand Coldwater as well. I want him to lead the ten thousand that are coming to Eddard's Rest to join up with Kal."

"Indeed. They shall hold the south, then." He handed Benjen his younger son. "I am sorry about Danya, Ben. I know you two were close."

"I told her not to fight in the van," Benjen said simply, evidently having made peace with his friend's death on the way north. Or he was suppressing it. One of the two. "Seems following me brings only death. Serves as a warning to those who do."

"Self pity is an armor even more useless than doubt, son. Everyone who followed you knew the stakes, particularly her." He began to leave. "Take some time. Get back into the land of the living, Benjen." He leaves quietly.

"Karyl, sit please," Benjen says, indicating a chair. The Prince takes a piece of boar and rips into it, potatoes and gravy following the meat. "We're going on an adventure."

"Everything we do is an adventure your grace." Karyl says in between bites of the boar. "I look forward to it."
