Uhtred paces the deck, reading reports of what had happened to his men from Ferrous. He had asked for Harwyn to confer with him, as it seemed events had moved along while they were having fun in the jungle.
Giovanda, returned from his own interests, leans against the mast as he watches his captain walk.

Harwyn was present quickly, having definitely not been gambling with his men and in fact doing responsible leader things. "News from home? Some of the men are anxious to be back."

Uhtred gives him the paper "Seems we're both going home now. King Euric has decreed that all ironborn are to return to him, under penalty of death 'All Ironborn who wish to not be hunted down and slain like rabid dogs are to gather at Pyke for a great event.'" Uhtred spits to the side "The goatfucker. Coming back into my life after a decade and a half. I'll show him what a rabid dogdoes."

"He assumes he can demand obedience from all of the Ironborn? We shall remind him of our history with foolish kings. If he wishes our presence, he can act like somebody who deserves it." Harwyn scowled down at the paper. "How long ago was this?"

"Months. But you know how news travels. But what are we to do with it..." The men discuss much as the light fades, but finally are agreed to heed the Iron Kings call. Cooler heads prevailed for now. The matter eventually turns to being able to return. "The arbor fleet stands in our way, and the Volantese breathe down our necks. Luckily, I doubt either wants anything to do with a force like ours. Especially after the reputation with Entel. Think you could talk our way through?"

Harwyn's distaste for the edict had faded as they discussed it, now viewing it as merely questionable. With the shift of discussion to fleets, Harwyn grinned. "I can get us back to the Iron Islands. Neither of them have particular interest in us, and a battle would prove costly at a time nobody can afford it. They will see reason, perhaps when they see gold."

Uhtred grins back, two boys for a second standing on a ship beneath the stars. "I'll leave it to you then. I'd break the table if I had any talks that lasted longer than a couple minutes, which reminds me, there was this fat, disgusting Myrrish man..." The men talk and the next day the fleet sails toward the Arbor hopefully slipping around the Arbor fleet, but if encountered the scout ships will fly a white flag, claiming that their commanders wished to talk to the Admiral of the Reach. Otherwise they'll avoid the reachmen if possible

The scouts report the entire Arbor Fleet is out and about, dozens of ships of all sizes. Slipping by them will be nearly impossible. If they wish to speak to the Lord of the Arbor they need to make port.

Uhtred muses out loud "If the entire fleet is about, and spread out, we should be able to get past without a ruckus if we don't make it apparent where we're going, and move in force. The individual ships won't want to mess with us, and if we're far enough away from shore they won't have to worry about us raiding or interfering. If they do move out in force, they sure as hell won't be able to hide it just as we can't. Then final option is to talk. How's that sound?"

Harwyn thinks it over for a moment as he leans against the railing of the ship, then lets out a laugh. "It could work, even if it doesn't work. Let's give it a try, shall we?"

Uhtred gives the order. They'd be moving in obvious force, flying the Iron Titans flags proudly. The scout ships would pull back if confronted with force, but would keep as good a eye on the arbor fleet as possible. It would be obvious the fleet was trying to circle around, not move in to the Shields.

Two days into the trip, the scouts report the Arbor Fleet has partially massed and is interdicting their movement. The portion is just slightly smaller than their current fleet, but will get much larger every day.

After a brief discussion, a corsair is sent towards the Arbor Fleet with the white flag flying high and Harwyn on deck, eventually maintaining an equal distance between the two fleets. Harwyn crosses his arms as he stares across the water, waiting for the return envoy.

A galley arrives between the fleets to talk, apparently.
