"That still puzzles me, about Cassadar. What would an assassin want with war? I know he has plagued the Lannisters for quite some time now..." She stopped abruptly. "I'm sorry. I am sure politics and theory are the last things you want to talk about now."

"Maybe that's just what Saltcliffe thought he wanted," Benjen said with a shrug. "Or he wanted to use the state of chaos in the realms during war for his own good."

She sat there, thinking, in silence for a moment too long. "I must confess, it makes my head hurt to think about it."
She got up suddenly. "Did you say there was wine?"

"Yes, that cupboard over there," Benjen said, pointing. "Dornish, Arbo even some Lyseni. Help yourself to as much as you wish."

Arania retrieved the wine, the first bottle she grabbed, and two glasses. She poured with shaking hands. She drained half a glass and filled it again before bringing them and setting them down on the windowsill. She sat next to him this time. "I wish that things would just go as planned. I could even bring myself to be excited for the tourney if only last night had never happened."

"And where would the excitement in that be?" Benjen asked, either humorously or dead serious... it wasn't too evident. "I don't think I want to drink; it would be too tempted to never stop again."

"I'll drink it for you, then," she said, already reaching for his untouched glass. She hesitated only a moment before putting it to her lips.

"Just be careful," Benjen said, watching Arania drink. "Interesting... how the world looked so different the morning before it happened..."

She put the glass down, though her hand still clutched the stem. "Yesterday, I walked where I wished alone. Today, I have six men following me wherever I go. No privacy. I am shocked they did not protest when I was told to come in alone."

"After all, you are left alone with a man who murders young women," Benjen commented, a small chuckle leaving his lips. "'The world is ever changing, though the difference can be small or vast in perspective'... Rickon Stark I believe..."

"Nonsense." She darted a glance at him when he chuckled. "Quoting literature...perhaps we are not so changed after all." She smiled then, amused by it all.

"Perhaps," Benjen said with a nod, his features bearing a slight smile. "Who knows how the world will turn, what will happen tomorrow or the day after. We just have to get on with it."

"We do," Arania said with a sigh, leaning forward to rest her elbows on the sill and her face in her hands. "I do hope our kingdoms do not go to war. I rather like talking to you, if you don't mind me saying." She looked down at the tiny people milling about in the yard below, watching them cart goods or carry sloshing buckets of water. Not nearly as small as they looked from the top of the Hightower.

Benjen grinned. "I have to confess that I enjoy your company as well. If there is anything I can do to stop a war then I will do it."

"That is refreshing to hear. I'm sure my brother is up in arms with the best of them. He loves the idea of war. I wonder how long that will last after war begins." She did not seem to have very high hopes on the matter. She eyed the last bit of wine in the glass as she began to feel the rest of it go to work on her; it was a pleasantly vague dizziness, but not enough to do serious harm.
