I was reading through the battle rules, and I was wondering if it might be more realistic to force a rally check after a smaller number of casualties, like 10 or 15 percent, rather than 35. Even 10 percent losses are pretty substantial and I think if you've already lost a third of your force in one battle, the rest of them will be already in flight rather than waiting to see if you pass your check. I think this would bring us to more frequent battles, but with fewer casualties.
It should also be rmembered that in basically any pitched battle, 90% of the casualties lost would generally occur AFTER one army had broken and was routing, and their men were being run down by the enemy cavalry. If an army could pull back in good order, there was a high probability that both sides would have lost a relatively insignificant number of men. Maneuvering around for advantage was as important as, if not more so, the actual fighting.

I'm changing how casualties work though, so in the end the winning side will get the same benefit and the losing side will have to ransom a bunch of people back. I don't want a rally check every round of battle after all...it does cut down some on the epicness. Basically, casualties will be split into one third dead and two thirds wounded. Whichever side retreats loses their wounded and the winning side gets both their wounded and the other sides.

ahh I see. That's cool. I also was wondering if there is any mechanism for an organize retreat, if we want to disengage without routing? I realize that's probably the most difficult military maneuver that a fighting army can attempt to perform, but once in a while it is pulled off successfully.

You can call for a rally at any time if you want I suppose. With mostly non=professional levies though, and fighting cavalry, I'd probably make it easier to pass than a normal casualty-based rally, but it could still seriously backfire.

One more question. Do spears count as polearms, or can they be one handed? You can use a spear and shield together, afterall

It's explicitly listed under one handed, iirc

The only 1 handed specialties listed are sword, axe, and mace

I added it, I think I took it out because people can use spears as either, but polearms are more the two handed type.

Any player may make their own event like Blane is doing, as a note.

Prince Benjen Stark throws a big party for the one and only Cassadar! Everyone, especially the infamous assassin, is invited! There will be a large, 12 crossbowmen-sized cake served and of course Cassadar will get the first "slice"!

This thread is still active. I want to hear what players want from an RP so we can make the game as good as we can.
