Kalvin thinks, then summons Jackson. "Take the men and head back to the army. Let Prince Benjen know what's going on," he said. "We'll join you later." He looked at Ice's hilt a second. "This isn't a voting situation. We're searching the entrance," he said.

"Good." Robyn said, it was clearly what she preferred to do. "It would good to gain some information from this scouting mission other than, 'there's a river to cross'" Robyn looked at Kalvin, She looked to the Crowl and Uthred.... or uthreds disguise... "Are you coming with us?"

"Of course little Stark. I've never had an Other before, maybe I'll use one to keep my drink cold." Crowl states.

Uhtred shrugs "came this far. Might as well keep going" shouldering the hopefully obsidian battle axe.

Robyn smiled at 'uthered' and beamed a bit at the crowl, "You're both really brave. The others won't know what hasn't hit them, because hopefully we don't have meet any in there"

The aprty sets off to the entrance. It's a long and treacherous path, but they make it in about an hour. The crystal gates beckon, twenty feet high and blue-grey. Any sign of anything else present has ceased.

Uhtred dribbles a tiny bit of liquid from a flask onto a torch and holds it in one hand. He figures the substance won't react unless he forces it in this cold.

"Something to help the torch start up in this cold. Won't do it unless things get bad though, I guess it'll draw them." He looks up at the crystalline gates "it must be... ice, right? Never seen it like this."

"Who knows, I would not recommend touching it though, the others I fought had swords that if they touched you would freeze you solid" Robyn warned him,

Uhtred takes a hasty step backward "well warned then." This far from any fire, his eyes are back to their strange blue green mix.

A sound like moaning echoes forth from the cave entrance, and a tinny clanging sound is heard off and on. The cold is so bronze even the meager warmth of a cave jets out of the hole in steamy wind. Snow begins blowing as the foursome explores. "Shall we?" Kalvin said, u slinging his great sword.

(Oh, are the gates open?)
Uhtred stares up at the gates and nods, moving forward with Kal, axe in one hand torch in the other.
Edit: He also keeps his head down.

Crowl gazes into the mountain gate, feeling the warm breeze on his face. He cracks his knuckles and straightens the claw attachments of obsidian. "I'll lead the way."

Killion and a handful of capable reavers had decided to join the scouting party, the royal far from an inept scout and preferring to lead by example. Besides, he was tired of sitting on his ass him the ice and snow.
"No objections here." he remarked wryly as the massive cannibal volunteered to go first, staring at the crystalline gates with a mixture of curiosity and wonder.
