Dud bets a few coppers, assuming this wasn't a high stake game and waits for the others

"Can you do people?" Amelia asked him curiously. "A helpful trait, not being able to fall for ambushes. I could have done with that ability over the past four years," She added with a chuckle. "Aye, though people are a stubborn lot. Many skinchangers forbid it but obviously, I passed beyond such concerns a long time ago." He shrugged. "And what of your own gifts, madame expert? They must be formidable to appeal to such a man who already has a dragon."

Being on the road is tough, and constantly waiting for an ambiush, plus knowing what's coming...." He sighed,"Makes for tough going."

The men get some cards back, but lose the hand to a three of a kind from the red head sorceress. Everyone curses. Nick starts to deal again, two this time. The princess Cassana is watching but not playing. "Lord Maekar,@ she said. "Is Highgarden's restoration going well ?"

Maekar swears, giving the sorceress an evil look. He turns to Cassana,"It goes as well as can be expected." He gives her a sly look, his voice cracking like burnt logs. "Curious about the defenses? No ballistas if you decide to ride Rhaegys right over the walls." He peeks at his cards,"Hopefully it never comes to that."

She paused for a moment. "Oriax, the Grey Man - I was his apprentice."

"It didn't take dragons to smash it last time, my lord." She smiled pleasantly while Kalvin smirked. Maekar has a suited ten and jack. Dudley basically has a rock.

Dud frowns, but gives the sorceress and congratulations nod on the hand. Dud gives a small grin he tries to hide with the Princesses comment to Tyrell. He checks his cards and waits.

He smiled back,"No, it took an imbecile cousin of mine. Fight almost the whole of Westeros will usually lose you a war." He threw down a silver stag,"He gambled, and lost, when there really wasn't much of a gamble to begin with."

I suspect he was another supplicant like myself, suckling at the Great Other's cold teat. His past, while surely a fascinating song, has no bearing on his future now. The Great Other and his burning nemesis insure that life continues in a cycle. Your perceived sins, whether instigated or assisted by Oriax, are but footnotes in the treatise that will continue long past you are worm's food." He fed his birds. "You should be glad for the wisdom you gained. Few in this life will ever understand what we are, and you are blessed in the knowing moreso than the doing."

Amelia looked at Ilvar with a bemused expression. "Are you always this optimistic?" She drew her cloak shut as a gust of wind swept past them. "I do not envision surviving the defeat of Oriax and so I have come to terms with imminent death. It seems you have as well."
