"Oriax... a wizard who worked for house Stark for a while," Benjen told her. "He decided to travel north, beyond the Wall, looking for something. I get the feeling he found it."

Julia shivered. "That seems certain. Do you think he let us go? That army at the Wall seemed more taunting than tactical."

Benjen shook his head. "I don't know. I think Greyjoy hard orders to kill us but when we outran him..." He shrugged. "I can't tell but we got lucky. It's going to be very different leading an army up there."

"I can only imagine," she whispered. She looked about and touched his cheek with her palm. "There are stories about you, you know."

Benjen looked at Julia with a curious smile, though he didn't move her hand. "There are? And what do they say about me?"

"That you're completely insane, for starters," she said as her fingers traced his jawline. "And about all those heroics you perform." Her nails lightly scratch his stubble as they move. "I find them a bit more believable now."

"Kal is the insane one... okay, not, we both are," Benjen said with a laugh, his hand coming up to take Julia's. "Life was... not alright, but it was fairly peaceful until Mason Keep four years ago. There were a few rebellions and raids by wildlings and such that I helped put down... but now everything is different. The world isn't beautiful and lovely anymore. It's deadly."

"It's always been deadly," she said, her right leg coming up to straddle him. "You've just gotten more deadly. But there's beauty and life everywhere," she said softly. She doesn't know who Kal is but he sounds crazy too.

Benjen smiled sadly at Julia, forcing himself from getting lost in the moment. "Perhaps there is... no, you are right. There is beauty." He thought of his children, of Cassana. "I am sorry, Julia, but I am married."

"How romantic," she said, climbing off. A horn blows from the Wall. Orys strides in, regardless of politesse. "Prince Benjen," he said grimly, noting Julia's presence but ignoring it for now, "They're coming. The Lord Commander allowed the dead through the Wall, and the army to the north was just to cut off escape in any direction."

Benjen's eyes widened, his mouth falling open. He paled and took a breath to regain his nerves. "They're through... How many!?" He immediately began putting on his armour and strapping on his sword. "How far!? How much time do we have?"

Orys looked more resigned than panicked. "Thousands," he said, "but still just a small force. The host is moving southeast to cut us off completely, and we have no fortifications south of here worth mentioning." He scratches his head. "I recommend you all leave on a ship immediately. I believe that this sorcerer-king seeks to possess the entire Wall, even if his field marshals cannot take the field here." He sighed. "You have fifteen minutes or so...the false brothers have already killed our men patrolling the Wall." He leads them outside as Benjen sees an arrow fly towards the small wildling camp from the Wall. The black brothers are firing back but the arrows are nowhere near reaching the summit.
Ser Lucas has organized the few hundred brothers who are still loyal into a fighting formation, the men dumping something all over the place. "Prince," he said. "Seems we got our answer on Castle Black." He is curiously calm.

"It seems so," Benjen said grimly, looking up at the Wall. "What are your men doing, Ser Lucas?" He asked as he watched them dumping the stuff. "Do we have enough ships for all the wildlings? And for your men?"

"We watch the Wall, my prince," he said. The fluid looks like oil. "There's no room for everyone anyway." his men are scared but seem resolute, facing death itself. "I'm sending Kyle Caron with you; our youngest brother, well connected enough to be heard." The brothers form a good battle line between the Wall, the dead, and the few ships remaining. "He was my steward, perhaps one day he can rebuild the brotherhood." Julia's eyes widen.
"But this is suicide! You'll die!" Orys shakes his head as he looks at her.
"We died the moment we took our vows."

Benjen frowned. "You're no good to the Wall if you come back to fight for the dead." He then noticed the oil. "But you're not planning to do that." He sighed. "Thank you, Ser Lucas. If I find myself facing the Grey Man I will make sure your name is the last thing he ever hears." He grasped the man's hand and shook it.
"Everyone, to the ships now! Julia, Orys, Kyle, with me." He turned to the men of the Night's Watch that would stay and saluted them, before making his way to the ship, ensuring everyone who could get on did so.
