"An alliance with the Kingsland will secure our eastern border, and with Dorne diminished, we can look west towards the Ironborn. Foolishness would be allowing an opportunity like that to pass." The next landing was for his quarters, he stopped on it,"How'd the king take my ascension to Highgarden?"
"We too have lost a father and brother, hopefully this marriage will deter anymore deaths in our families." She smirked, and heard talking outside, recognizing her brother's voice. "Our siblings are out there, maybe we should join them."

Alysanne nods and they head out. Arania makes a face. "I'd rather secure the alliance when his Grace has a son," she said. "I didn't leave Winterfell to rule for another little boy, with his health." She frowned. "The King accepted my proposal is all that is important. Highgarden must be manned."

Maekar's laughter crackled,"It's the name that counts and a child is easily ruled. That'd be another generation of influence and diminished threat in a neighbor." He heard a door close down the hall and turned to greet his betrothed and sister. "Ladies", he acknowledges them and turns back to Arania,"The kingdoms are in tatters and any plan must be a sure thing, we don't have the manpower to succeed otherwise."

"There ar eno sure things," Arania said. "So long as the north remains an ally we are well positioned, but first we must rebuild. Once we have regained our power it won't matter who stands in our way." She continues walking up the stairs. "Even if my neighbor to the north isn't fond of your new station."

He narrowed his eyes, thinking of who it could be. She had said the King wasn't against it,"And who might that be? Lord Tomas or one of the King's family?"

"The Lady of Lannisport," she said. "Seems she took losing her brother than I did losing mine," she said. "The Hand can...well, no call for crudeness now, but he can dislike anything he chooses. He's a clever little brutal dog without his wife."

He grunts, having heard of Joanna. "The Wench of the Westerlands can be a problem, from what I've heard. If properly placated, I'm sure she could be brought into the fold."

Arania looked at him. "I'd recommend taking a less flippant air when speaking of women in charge, Lord Maekar," she said. "Joanna Lannister is perfectly capable of ruling. Your distant kin did just slaughter tens of thousands, mind. Rule wisely and well and I will take care of her."

He frowned,"The gender of a ruler doesn't matter to me, as long as they are effective. But from what I have heard, she is a black widow disguised as a Lannister. " He ran his hand through his hair,"I don't think I'd be here if I didn't at least show some potential." With that he turned towards his sister and Alysanne,"Highgarden is worth all of these new found problems, at least so far." He cracked a smile, having amused himself.

Arania shrugged. "A woman must be a black widow to rule men," she said. "Weakness is pounced on more freely. So long as her fangs bite our enemies I couldn't care less." Alysanne smiles.
"Not all problems, certainly," she said.

He raised an eyebrow, and pulled some of his hair into his field of vision,"All work and no play will turn leave your hair white." He pushed it back behind his ear and looked pointedly at her,"I'm sure as we get to know each other, it'll help ease the burdens of my new station." He was apprehensive about his marriage, know his own faults and quirks could obstruct a productive relationship.

Alysanne nods. "We will be wonderful," she promised. "The gods will bless us, even if you are skeptical now." Her sister raised an amused eyebrow but remained silent.
"Dinner will be soon. I shall see all of you then." She went off, trailed by her from and silent northern guard.

Maekar nodded, his face passive."I'm glad we're both open to making this work. It's relieving to know that, arranged marriages do have a sort of foreboding about them, despite how common they are."

Alysanne nodded. "Marriage is a gift we should not waste, as are children." She looked about, her small frame shaking a little. "Is it true you died and came back from the other side?"

He chuckled, opened his mouth to speak, but couldn't find the words. After a second he closed it again and sighed through his nose. He took a moment to gather himself, then cleared his throat, trying to make his voice sound normal. "We can speak of that later. Right now, let's go to dinner." With that he strode towards his rooms and closed the door behind him.
Rya stood there, slightly pale. "Well that was quite the ice breaker."
