Lord Maekar and his family are asked to attend the Lady Arania in Oldtown to seal their alliance. Highgarden is too damaged to countenance having a happy event at.

Lord Maekar, Rya and Allard arrive with their household guard and make their way to the Hightower. When they arrive at the foot of the massive light house, Maekar hops down from his horse and helps his little sister down from hers. He is dressed in a white doublet, with a gold rose on the breast. He bows to the Lady Paramount.

The lady is dressed in magnificence for once, her black hair coiffed and her icy eyes calm. Her red lips curl into a smile. "Lord Maekar, may I be the first to congratulate you on your new station. High garden will be in good hands." She draws a slim sword and taps him on each shoulder. "I, Arania of the House Hightower, do appoint lord Maekar of the House Tyrell Lord of Highgarden and the Mander, under the auspices of King Brynden Lannister. Rise," she declared in her pleasant but steely voice.
Next to her a small one eyed child sits quietly, staring curiously at the tall, pale, deathly lord. He smiles and claps with everyone else. Next to him is a young lady with long black hair and pretty darker eyes, who is still and wrapped in a cloak of the Hightowers. "May I present my sister, the Lady Alysanne," Arania says, gesturing as the tall man rises. "I wish you both strength and happiness and many strong sons."

He smiles weakly, the look seems unnatural for him. "I thank you, Lady Arania. Your continued confidence makes me, and mine proud to serve under you." The smile left his face and he turned to Alysanne and cleared his throat,"The bards sing of your beauty, my lady."

Alysanne looks a bit nervous, but she does her best to smile and curtsey. "Perhaps they exaggerate, my lord, but I thank you." The young boy rubs his cheek as he looks at the tall lord. His single eye seems to regard him with familiarity. Arania looks about.
"The celebration will be in a week's time." She turns to the rest of the family. "Your rooms have been prepared on the twentieth floor. It's...a long walk up, but I assure you the view is unequaled. We shall sup in a few hours."

Maekar was about to reply when he noticed the young boy, he turned to him and his face becoming more lined as he tried to recognize him."And you are?"
Rya had bowed to the Lady Paramount and then started directing the guards and servants to bring everything to the rooms. She then snuck over to Alysanne and whispered,"He's more bark than bite." She smiled at her soon to be sister in law.

Alysanne nodded. "Perhaps he can be trained, then," she said with a tight smile. She leads them to their rooms overlooking the sea. The highest mountains of the Arbor can be seen in the far distance.
The boy looks up fearlessly. "I'm Beric! I'll be lord one day!" He scans him up and down. "You've seen the shadow people too." He doesn't ask it so much as state it. "The shadow people tried to hurt me one time. Mother stopped them."

Maekar coughs and his brow seems to furrow further,"You're mother is a brave woman, you are lucky to have her." He points to his eye,"Is that one happened here? The shadow people?"
Rya giggles as they head up the steps,"Our house bears the golden rose, think of it as trimming his thorns. He has an abundance of them, so it'll take some time."

"Shadow man," Beric confirms. "He was scarier than you." Arania looks at him.
"Enough, Beric." She turns to Maekar. "Hopefully Highgarden can be restored. I always rather liked the castle, truth be told."
Alysanne shrugs. "I've never been a good gardener. But the Seven will be with us," she said quietly.

Maekar nodded sadly,"Well that time is over now, it's time to repair the wounds we have sustained." He leaned over the boy, blocking out the sun and said quietly,"There are many things far scarier than I in this world, you'd do well to remember that."
He look at Arania and started to slowly walk up into the Hightower,"Highgarden will be beautiful again, whether our enemies see fit to deter me or not."

Beric sucks his hand as he stares up at him. "I will be scary," he said suddenly.
Arania nods as they walk. "They will try. We will be stronger. No one can match our wealth or determination, and the crows will be picking at those fucking ironborn soon enough," she said. "They have angered all the world, and the world will bury them."

"We'd do well to bring the Arbor and the lands we've lost over the years back into the fold. They'll burn, but it would be in our best interest if it wasn't on our doorstep." He sighed, but it came out as more of a guttural gasp. "Things are just starting to settle down and I'm looking to stir them up again."
Rya laughed,"The Seven have nothing to do with him, if you listen to the rumors." She grew sad for a second, remembering her brother before the war and his disfigurement. Then her eyes grew curious,"What do you think of him?"

"Nothing settles down," Arania said. "The boiling pot can be covered a while, but someone always lifts the cover before too long. The Arbor will be ours again," she vowed. "And the Shields, and those damned islands will go the way of Valyria before I am finished with them."
Alysanna raises an eyebrow. "The Seven deny no man," she said. "Even if some mens' trials are more than they deserve to our eyes." She thinks. "He seems...distant. I expect that," she admitted. "No one is close to an arranged marriage."

Maekar shrugged and croaked back,"A lull then, but still something we should let flourish. What of King Aaron, the Baratheon king, we have common enemies." As they climbed the steps he slowed down, to keep time with her.
Rya snorted,"Are you really this religious or just putting on a front until you figure out who we are?" She looked out the window for a second before addressing her again,"Maekar is distant with everyone, even his own family, what's left of it. War, death and disfigurement have left him feeling ostracized, but a warm personality and an accepting heart will do him good. This is an arranged marriage but you could be good for each other." The Tyrell girl was young and she knew it, the words coming from her mouth seemed to surprise her and it showed on her face,"I guess we've all grown up a little too quickly."

"I hear tell our king's sister will be wedding him shortly," Arania said. "Foolish but perhaps necessary."
Alysanne blinked. "I serve the Seven and they have been good to me. Not the Faith's radical version, but the kind in the Seven Pointed Star; to be kind and compassionate and help others. Those gods are my gods," she finally said. "War is...horrible. It has cost me my brother and father and more."
