The lady shrugs and leaves. Apparently theinspectors are onto Gio, so he'll have to come up with a different approach.

The lady shrugs and leaves. Apparently theinspectors are onto Gio, so he'll have to come up with a different approach. Gio shrugs as she leaves. The offer was still open to acolytes of the maesters, and any scribe who had the qualifications. He had no intention of making them steal the books, he simply wanted someone to start copying the books in question for him. He'll check the specialized book merchants if he can, but he doubted they would have the same quantity as he Citadel.

As Morwyn sleeps, she is awakened by another of her roommates, Warren, slamming the door. "The Citadel is doomed," he pronounces finally. "The archmaester says that this Lady Arania has ordered women to be accepted into the Citadel, effective immedaitely. What the hell sort of shit is that?!" Alvin grins.
"Maybe they'll revoke our celibacy vows, too!"

She sat up in confusion, hardly daring to believe it. What it meant for her future she wasn't sure, but if it was true....For now though, she hadn't met this Lady Arania or her household so she focused on the more obvious question.
"The Citadel will never revoke the oaths of celibacy," she remarked with confidence. "A maester is sworn to the family and castle he serves, it would affect his duties if he were allowed to marry and father children. Besides, they won't want trouble between male students and the new female students, when some come forward. Can you imagine having to call the City Guard to a brawl because two students are fighting over the same girl? Or what if a female student receives unwanted attention from a male student? No, they'll keep the vows of celibacy."

"We fight over girls anyway," Alvin said pointedly, "Just not officially. Anyway, this woman is insane. Upending millenia of tradition for what?" He shook his head as Warren and Olyvar listen. Warren shrugs.
"I don't know her sanity, but she is picking out some scary looking men to be the new City Watch," he said. "I heard rumors that brutal Lord Stark gave her some real killers to make sure no one dares raise a voice against her in meetings of the lords."

Morgan couldn't blame the mysterious Lady Arania for worrying about being shouted down by her lords. It was, unfortunately, the sort of problem often faced by women in power or any woman who dared to take a stand against convention. Yet the thought of the City Watch being strengthened gave her some comfort. She gave her companions a long look.
"It will make things interesting here, won't it? I mean, women are as capable of reading and studying as men are. I imagine some of the skills might be more difficult for a woman, such as smithing, but subjects like medicine and history may not require a man's greater strength. At least, I would assume not But perhaps it will take a while for women to come forward. Many women are happy to be wives and mothers."

"It's funny you say that," Alvin said. "She bloody took second daughters and such from all the rebellious lords and placed them here as a sort of...trial class, I guess. But everyone knows it's just so she has hostages." Alvin and the others save for the young Manderly shake their heads. "Maybe they'll be lonely and looking for a party..."
Olyvar looks more annoyed at his roommates.

Morgan frowned. "Wait, so Lady Arania's first female students aren't even here by their own choice? If she wants to prove that women are worthy of admission, that will hardly do her any favours. These hostages may not even be interested in forging their links. They may be bad students."
She looked around at the others. "As we are the newest students, shall we be sharing our classes with the female students?"

"Yes," Warren said. "And I'm not sure Arania Hightower gives a single gods-damn about how they do academically for now." He shrugs. "Not that it will matter, anyway. Some girl from Banefort is coming, supposedly," he grinned to the others. "A real firebrand named Sara." Moryn realizes she's met her on more than one occasion.

She tried hard to keep a straight face. "That's interesting," she said vaguely, already thinking about how she could use the information to her own advantage, perhaps even form an alliance with Sara. "I think our duty is clear, gentlemen. There are many who will be unkind to the young ladies and make their time here difficult, perhaps even unpleasant. But it appears that none of them are here by choice. Lady Arania has clearly forced them into a difficult situation. These women should not be punished for Lady Arania's decision. I think it would be most proper to introduce ourselves to them and do our best to be civil, and perhaps even friendly.
She reached for her boots and stood.
"I cannot bear to think that the men of the Citadel are rigid and unwilling to embrace progress. I am going to meet these young ladies, Will any of you come with me?"

Olyvar shrugs and follows. The others say they'll meet them at a tavern or a less reputBle place.

Morgan sighed as she left with Olyvar. "i hardly think highborn girls will want to be seen in a tavern," she remarked. "Now, we need to find out where the ladies have been given quarters and hope we are allowed to visit them in the name of making them feel welcome."

The young man shrugs. "Probably not. I doubt our motives will be unquestioned," he said. "And being seen with the women might make some of the archmaesters inclined to treat us differently."
