Janelle sipped her wine. "I always knew you'd be different. When the other girls were little they liked dolls and stories of heroes and songs and music." She chuckled. "You, now, when you were four you'd be in the yard, watching every warrior out there fighting. Even then we knew you'd be a little wolf when you grew. That was back when your brother was just a page and Justin Mallister and lord umber was a much younger man. He used to put you on one shoulder and fight men with only his remaining arm. You'd squeal and laugh..." Her voice trails off. "I never quite understood, Robyn, but you were always so talented at whatever you did. It made us so proud to be your parents."

Robyn had to look away from her mother then, emotion hitting her hard, she thought she might cry if she kept looking at her, so it was best to just look away before she did. She'd not cried in so long, she thought if she started she'd never stop. Which would make fighting terribly difficult.
'Thanks..." She couldn't say much more than they for a long moment, trying to compose herself, looking up at the ceiling, "ironically, I did come here to ask you about handsome young men and marriage... How did you and father get betrothed?" She had wondered, her mother was a piper, it was hardly the most politically beneficial match she could have thought of.

"Your lord grandfather Jonarth was like a brother to your father's father," she said. "The kingdoms were at peace and they sought to celebrate their friendship with a union." She shrugged. "Sometimes a match with little material gain is safest, avoids offending any of the over-powerful lords and let's everyone celebrate."

"Dud you want to marry father?" She asked, "you don't need to answer, I'm just curious, seeing as I will have to marry before long... Well, eventually"

Janelle smiled. "I did want o be a queen, my dear. And your father was such a handsome man..." She finished her wine. "And it has been the highlight of my life."

"So you got married because you wanted to be Queen and father was handsome?" She asked, not sure if she should use this as a model to compel her to the alter.
"Well you got five incredibly children from it, if i do say so myself." She grinned, "I need to work out if I am going to marry any of the men who've made their intentions known... Wanted to hear some reasons others got married.

Janelle smiled. "I was fine with the idea of being queen, my dear; it is easier to have a choice when you are born on top and not in a tiny castle looking upwards," she said. "I had other little loves growing up, but my father decided on a course and that was that. Your father is taking a different approach."
She nodded along to her last part. "I can only offer to suggest that you look at their actions when they don't think anyone is watching, and how they treat people under their command. Any person is polite to princesses and royals, but some are just wearing a mask for us that they take off when they are on top."

"well, how can I do that?" She asked, "Talk to their people? Listen to rumour?" she had never heard a rumour about any of them, personally anyway. It seemed like a lot of effort to go to.

"Intrigue," the queen winked. "You're clever; you'll think of something."

"I don't think that is my speciality, but I will think of something, if any of them are left when I get back, they won't wait forever, I know that. Which may be for the best" she only half joked, "remove choice"

Janelle nodded. "I guess that is one way to look at it." She drinks. "Who is your favorite?" She whispers conspiratorially.

"Well, Kalvin, of course, I know him best, he knows me best, he is someone I know I respect, but I do not think he would be best, for those same reasons, and others," Robyn confided,

The queen shrugged. "Perhaps you're right," she said. "What other reasons could you mean?" She said.

"He already has an heir, if I were to marry, I would want my own sons to inherit, not the child of the lady of Oldtown, who kalvin is off now trying to rescue, so there would forever be three of us in the marriage," She seemed to consider something then, "does Beric get Oldtown too then?

Janelle shrugged. "If the lady Arania fails to produce another heir then yes, otherwise I believe not." She looked about. "For the moment, anyway." She nods along with her reasoning. "A shame, that. I hear he rather favors you." She smiled. "But there are plenty more good men in the kingdom. And beyond."
