Karyl turns to Jason and Lars, "We can try to sneak up on them at night, or we can wait till sun up while the sun is in their eyes for the battle before we attack. What do you two think?"

"If it were up to me, I'd sneak on them and attack in the darkness." Lars replies. "But I'm a scout. If you'd like me to take some scouts ahead and attack while they are asleep, then when they wake up, the rest rain down."

"We should attack in the night, as a unified force. We may get caught approaching, but even then many of them will be tired or unprepared." Jason drew his sword, grinning at the blade. "We'll be nightmares come to life."

"Then so be it. Lars take twenty men and scout ahead, if they have anyone out as guards I want them silenced before the rest of us catch up to you. The more this is a surprise in the night the better." The Crowl states, "If you can disrupt the camp from a distance then do that as well. If they are awake I want them dealing with chaos before the attack."

Scouting:
Lars's men are caught out in the open by the Vale rebels, forcing them back. The element of surprise is lost, as Lord Richard is not a man to be underestimated. The battle begins an hour after nightfall, in temperatures below freezing on a moonless cloudy night. Complicated maneuvers are impossible, as is effective missile fire. This will be a brutal slog.

He can't even see the ground from his massive height it is so dark out. The battle carries on. The Royce garrison rains arrows down on the enemy, but probably hit some friendlies too in the dark.

Jason finds himself facing Lord Richard. The giant man grins as he lunges at the cool, thorough professional, who awaits the man calmly even as his bodyguards seek to flee.

Round 1:
Jason: 144 (-15) Richard: 185
Jason is shocked that the slim and unassuming man is actually a talented warrior, and his first strike, filled with rage, is dodged at the last second. Lord Richard's blade cuts into his exposed thigh and blood spurts out.
