A pleasant guest room, with a hearth. Since Arania has taken up residence, it's in a fair bit of disarray.

After she arrives, Catherine Stark comes to see her. Motherhood has, to most women of the North's great annoyance, only made her more attractive, rounding out her sharper points. She smiles "Arania! It's been so long since I've seen you!"

Arania was still puzzling out the more difficult points of the Valyrian book. She looked up to see Catherine enter the room. She closed the book and got to her feet at once. "Catherine!" Arania smiled. "Yes, a very long time. How have you been? Being a princess suits you; you look so radiant."

"Thanks!" She hugs her. "I have a little baby boy now too. How was your trip east? I wish I could have gone! Did you and Kalvin end up getting better acquainted?" she said with a grin.

"He and I are to be married soon," she said with a shy smile, hugging Catherine back. "The east was...well, everything's bigger there. And there are dragons, and pyramids, and markets as big as towns, where you can buy anything so long as you have enough gold." She gestured to a chair for Catherine to take. "I heard, about your son. Benjen must be so happy."

"Let's not talk about him for right now," she says. "but yes, Rickon is a beautiful little boy. You just have to see him. So you saw a real dragon? Incredible! the things I miss..."

Arania looked at Catherine oddly. Had something happened since they'd returned, between Ben and Catherine? She felt a gnawing feeling in the pit of her stomach. But of course, her secret was safe, or Catherine wouldn't be quite so friendly. "I didn't just see it! King Sirius took me flying. It was one of the most wonderful things I've ever experienced." She looked at her hands. "Really, though, you didn't miss too much, across the sea. It was trouble everywhere we went."

"Trouble? What kind?" Catherine sounded concerned. "but you flew a dragon! Unnnnnbelievable! And all I got to do was get fat and smile through meetings so dull they made me miss Mason Keep."

"All sorts," said Arania, shrugging her shoulders. "Should I mention the scandal Amelia caused in Volantis, or the one in Meereen? Or perhaps the fiasco that was my meeting with the late Sealord?" She shook her head. "You're hardly fat, Catherine. You look softer. But it really suits you. I think anything would suit you," Arania laughed.

"Oh please, list them all," she chuckled. "Don't flatter me! I get enough stares and drooling from all these northmen." She starts to say something else, but stops. "Kalvin said some stuff went really wrong."

"They're terribly barbaric, some of them." Arania grinned. "I think its part of their charm, though."
She looked a bit concerned. "What were you going to say? What did Kalvin say?"

"Kalvin just said he didn't much care for the two-legged dragons, except some sister who he probably just found gorgeous. My other concern is my husband. He is not being himself." She frowns. "But first, these scandals."

A gorgeous Targaryen sister? Arania felt some jealousy, followed quickly by guilt. She had no right to jealousy after... She looked over Catherine quickly. "I'm sure the prince is just tired. He's been at war. He told me he saw awful things. Inhuman things, and witches." She moved on the the next subject quickly. "Kalvin's dislike for the Targaryens comes from one of the scandals." Not something she wanted to talk about, that. "But that's no matter. I should tell you about the clothes in Essos, about the fine silks so sheer its like wearing air, and the way everyone dresses like a peacock in garish colors you can scarcely imagine."

"It sounds...magical." Catherine seems to have doubts. "I wish he'd try telling e this. All he keeps doing is looking for more fucking people to kill. Like he'll ever run out."

"He's changed in the time since I saw him last," Arania allowed. More self-possessed, more...forward. "I'm sure he wants to spare you the descriptions." Yes, that was it. She wanted to see him again, and wondered if he would see her. "He tries to take responsibility for everything. He forgets he's only one man."
