"Oh, yes, I find your city very impressive indeed!" She toyed with the end of one long strand of hair, affecting an air of flirtatious nonchalance. "I find the customs curious as well. Braavos and all of the Free Cities are so different from home."

"Excellent! I am so glad it is to your liking! Please, please, sit and have some wine with me." He fills two glasses. "Now, then, how may I help you?"

She sat near him and took the wine, sipping at it delicately. "Thank you," she said with a smile. "Well I was wondering if you could answer some questions I had. I am so curious about some things... for instance, I understand your position is not hereditary. How did you come to power? How do any of the Sealords come to power?"

"I wiped out everyone else who said they were Sealord," he chuckled. "The position is competitive to ensure that the strong rule. However, blood killings after the struggle are forbidden, as are coups and disloyalty. The transition from ruler to ruler may be bloody, but the reign must be uncontested."

"That seems like a very effective means of gaining power," she said, nodding and sipping at the wine again. "It also goes around some of the problems more traditional monarchies run into, such as child kings." She looked at him, thinking hard. Would it be too soon to mention Cassadar? She feared to speak the name, knowing what she now knew. "Do you hold the position for life?"

"That's rather the idea. No one is likely to try taking it from me." He grins at her. "There is no Sealady right now, you know."

"Is there not? I'm sure a man like yourself will have no problems finding someone to fill that position." She bit her lip again, thinking. "Your city is famed for the swordsmen, and I've seen many bravos swaggering about the streets. And there are the assassins. Very infamous men, even in Westeros. Especially the Faceless Men." She leaned forward in her chair. "I've always been terribly interested in such things. Though its not quite ladylike, as I have often been reminded."

He chuckles. "The Faceless Men? Yes, they were something to fear, once. Very dangerous people. Not so much anymore, I hear. Not since the greatest assassin of them all and his friends killed them."

She looked shocked at that. "Killed? The lot of them? What sort of man could have done such a thing?"

"The great one. Cassadar. Him and his sorcerers. They found a way. They weren't cheap, either." He chuckles. "Blood runs thicker than water, after all."

"Cassadar? I have heard that name...he was causing trouble for all five of the kingdoms in Westeros in the time before I went east. It seems he does get around." She looked at him curiously. "Blood, you say...is he kin of yours, then, my lord?"

"He is. My sister's son. A fine lad, indeed." He grins at her happily. "Makes sure all my little messes get cleaned up."

It was much harder to smile, now, but smile she did. "How fortunate for you, to have such a...talented nephew." Arania set her empty glass on the table. "He is far from popular in Westeros, though, so my personal opinion of him may be tarnished." She tucked her feet up under her in the chair.

"Of course. He's not a good man, mind you. He is a fine ally to have, though; like the prized tool in a toolbox, or the greatest swordsman in an army. Arsenius Faol guards my shores and city with his fleet. Cassadar and his friends guard the underbelly, where more noble sorts fear to tread." He grins. "You've had run-ins with his men, then?"

"Once. Though at first it seemed to be the Ironborn. I'd rather not talk of that, though," she pouted. "It was very frightening."
