Where the seas of Slaver's Bay run within sight of the great city.

Arania stood on the deck, clutching the railing and trying to pick out details in the city as they approached. The sea air whipped her hair around her face and the spay was cold on her face and sometimes stung her eyes. Meereen grew slowly, very slowly, as they approached, though it was still fairly far away. She had stood there all day, finally used to the rise and fall of the deck under her feet.

April
They see the remnants of a battle, it must be...burning ships fill their sight, and dozens more are everywhere. Kal looks out over the waters. "By the gods...that many ships could destroy the Kingsland's fleet. And those are only the ones left."

Arania stared at the wreckages and smoking broken hulls of the ships. "What happened, Kal? It's...complete devastation." She had never seen a battle of any kind, much less the terrible aftermath.

"The dragons won. Though I didn't think battles this large were fought at sea." He looks out. "Head to that giant galleon, Admiral Dustin. That'll be the flagship." It's clearly half again as large as any other ship out there, black-hulled.

The red and black Targaryen banners were suddenly obvious to her. "Oh, of course they did." She chewed her lip as they approached the largest of the ships, wondering what they would have to say.

The monster galleon lets them dock, and shortly there is a bridge lowered to them, and a heavily armored man in dark grey armor appears on deck, on his chest the three headed dragon, with gold trim. He removes his helmet to reveal a handsome, slightly scarred visage. "Welcome to New Valyria," he says, descending. "I am King Sirius Targaryen."

So this was the King. "Your majesty," said Arania when he announced himself, curtseying deeply. She was fascinated by him and his family...and definitely hadn't expected to see the King so soon. When she rose, her eyes studied his face. She looked at Kal, wondering if she should say more. She had no wish to overstep her position.

'Please, please, stay up! You are my honored guests! Not subjects." He runs a hand through his hair. "Sorry we cannot give you a more proper welcome; there was a ...disagreement here." He shakes a surprised Kal's hand, then dips and kisses Arania's. "And you are...?"

"Arania Hightower," she said as he raised her hand to his lips. "I thought all monarchs wished to be treated as such?" He gave off an impression of approachability, and Arania already thought she liked him more than his brother Aenys.

"Well, this monarch needs allies more than he needs courtesies," he says with a broad smile. "Hightower? I have always wished to see how it matched up with our pyramid. I long for your opinion on the matter." He then repeats the kiss to Danya's hand.

Danya let him kiss her hand, studying the king silently.

"I look forward to sharing my opinion, then," she said pleasantly. "Whose ships are destroyed, here?" She felt emboldened enough to make conversation with the personable king.

"Maybe twenty of ours...and a hundred or so of theirs. They tried a night attack, though to catch us asleep." He shook his head. "Didn't happen." By the hulks and pieces of ship barely visible in the clear water, his count looks reasonable enough.

She nodded. "But whose? The Ghiscari?"
