Suddenly, quick as lightning, the voice of Ser Frances Sand can be heard. "Kal Stark thought I killed his mistress," the soft voice of Frances Sand says, "the lady said her name was Flowers, and I admit, in a moment of weakness, I took the woman to the garden so she could hear a song. Anyone in the Seven Kingdoms that night could vouch for that; they heard me playing my harp for her and showing her how to pluck a chord.
All of a sudden, the wolf was on me, cutting at me with that giant sword of his. Her guards, too. I had to kill the one who attacked me. the other shouted to the wolf and the lady he was going to get help, and Ser Markus came upon the scene as he did so, told him to stop, and he refused, so he had to cut him down. I took wounds..." he is quite clearly injured, and the brave Ser Markus told them to stop...but he came after him and I couldn't help...my brother." A tear is shed. "He just tried to DEFEND me! The woman is as much to blame as the wielder of the blade!"

Benjen watches Ser Frances speak with a passive expression, not letting his eyes betray the the disbelief he felt for the story. He waited to see how the Dornish would react.

Lord Yronwood's face was a mask, but he doubted if even one word in three was true. It would be impolitic, however, to express his skepticism in a public audience. His eyes flicked to the Princess of Dorne, who had not yet said a word since his arrival, the corners of his mouth turning downward in the tiniest of frowns.

From the looks about the room, it's evident the majority share Yronwood's private belief, but Lord Dayne just sits and stares at the heir to the north. Princess Nalya has been pushed to her mental limits quite a lot in the last ten days, and finally speaks, mustering a good deal of willpower. "Ser Frances, you are excused." The bastard knight stares at her, but she meets his gaze levelly, completely unfazed at his clinical stare, unlike nearly anyone else alive. "Leave. Now." The knight soundlessly slips out. "Lord Bryce, your bastard quite misleads you. The evidence is overwhelmingly in favor of the north's version of events." The lord stares her down, then rises and leaves without a word, to the shock of all. He smiles at Prince Benjen as he passes. He whispers to him as he passes. "A thousand curses, and not before."

Benjen did not meet the man's eyes, ignored him as he went by. He had worse enemies; most of all Cassadar, though he could not stop a small involuntary shiver down his spine. Outwardly he remained calm.
"Princess Nalya," Benjen said when Dayne was gone. "It seems that my part here is done. At your leisure I would return to my father and report what has transpired here."

Lord Yronwood stiffens at Lord Dayne's exit; it was his opinion that the Princess had shown far too much weakness this day already, but as his fealty was sworn to her he was appalled at the effrontery of Dayne's disrespect, if not surprised by it. Suppressing a sigh, he meets his brother's eyes for a moment, and then looks back to the Princess.

Nalya waves to Benjen. "Please, don't let us keep you any longer."
When he leaves, her eyes harden. "What reparations would you seek, Lord Yronwood? It's quite clear that stupid bastard son of his was lying through his teeth."

"That may be so," Oberyn replied bristling, "but I could not very well take the side of a Northerner over that of a man beside whom I have fought for nearly twenty years, with half of Dorne looking on. My lady," he added belatedly.
"This will mean war within Dorne; Lord Dayne will see this as a betrayal of his fealty to you, his liegelord is not providing the protection to which he is entitled as vassal."

"I believe the title you wish to use is PRINCESS, Lord Oberyn. And refusing to ask for money while the corpse is still warm hardly qualifies as not extending protection to a vassal. We are determining exactly what the fuck happened; if it was a fair fight no reparations are required. Particularly not from the one kingdom on Westeros that has no ill wishes towards us." She glares at him.

"Only blood can pay for blood, Princess, gold would not even come close," the Bloodroyal said stiffly. "The Red God's hand can be seen in this, Princess, for those worshipers of fire have no purpose but to sow chaos and hatred between those of us who follow the true Gods. I would not see Dorne burn for the retaliatory rage of one man, Princess. That would only play into the hands of our true enemy."

"What the fuck are you talking about?" Lord Terry Allyrion calls out. "It's pretty clear Kal Stark killed him. That bastard Frances has been an unholy terror for years; t's just a shame the wolf didn't do for him, too."

"I am sure that knowledge will placate Lord Bryce, my lord," Lord Yronwood replied dryly. "He will undoubtedly abandon his rage at Ser Markus' death after being presented with so reasoned an argument. It might not concern Godsgrace, if Starfall raises its banners against Sunspear, but for those of us who live on Lord Bryce's borders, it is a rather troubling notion."

"Princess Nalya will ensure the correct response is given for Ser Markus's death, Lord Oberyn," the quieter, more respectful voice of Lord Quentyn Fowler speaks. "She has never failed to supply us with justice in the past, even if it is not as bloody as we may wish sometimes. But, I do not see the work of any red god here; only of young men and women behaving badly, and tragedy resulting. And if Lord Bryce raises his banners, it will have nothing to do with justice and everything to do with ambition." He coughs into his hand. "And, if we wish to hunt the worshippers of Rh'lorr until they are no more, we will need an enemy unsupported by a hundred thousand vengeful northmen."

"As you say, my lord," Yronwood replied, before turning back to the Princess. "I will depart this ill-omened place on the morrow that I might return my daughter to the safety of Yronwood. By your leave, of course, Princess."
