"I know," she said. "i think we should try to buy it too. Do you want me to stay behind? I know it will be dangerous and I'm no warrior. I can dress like someone of lesser birth but I know I sound highborn."

Tim sized her up "up to you. I'm a fairly brutal man, but if you think you could help, don't talk as much."

"I can do that," she said. "Two heads are better than one, though. I could go to one establishment with you and if that doesn't work, you handle the rest alone, as long as you keep me informed. If I'm to get justice, for Lady Hightower and for myself, I need to know what's going on."

Sounds fine. And if we find evidence of the citadel? What then? Move in with armed forces?"

"Possibly. Though I think we should try the peaceful approach first. I am still not sure if the group of maesters I had trouble with are part of the official hierarchy or not. I feel like one of them would have said if he was an archmaester, but even if not, they probably have a significant hold on the Citadel. So we should approach the Seneschal for the current year once we have our evidence. If he reacts badly, we bring in armed men."

"It won't be that easy. But let's go" he rises and begins to unfasten his plate "chain will suffice for the streets. You should wear some as well, turn a dagger meant for your heart. Other that that, darker clothes will suffice. Hightower will let us have that much."

Maekar stepped forward as Lady Brax took her leave, he bowed to Arania. "My lady, I am Lord Maekar of Little Ivy. I've come here to ask your leave to run Higharden's holdings, my extended family's former lands are wide reaching and are in need of strong leadership. With this poison or sorcery on the loose, it would not be wise to let it spread up the Mander." He bowed again, his white hair tumbling over the top of his head, awaiting her reply.

After leaving the throne room, Lord Maekar tracked down Stone and Lady Brax. He waited for a break in conversation before saying,"I am a Lord of the Mander and you're story of poisons and espionage intrigued me. I think I can be of assistance, if you'll have me." He coughed as his voice box wasn't doing well with the strain of so much talking.

Arania tapped her fingers. "You may keep accounts and ensure the garrison is guarding the lands," she finally decided. "For now."

He straightened his back and pushed his hair behind his ears,"Thank you, my lady. As for Highgarden itself, should I allow it to fall into disrepair or am I given the reigns of acting castellan?" He took a second to speak again,"In addition, it would be of great help to both parties if I joined Lady Brax, is there anything I should be made aware of, besides what I have already seen and heard today?"

He coughed as his voice box wasn't doing well with the strain of so much talking. Stone rose as the Lord entered the dark room. "I do not think I am of a station to refuse you Lord. But for this play.... You are quite recognizable, is my only issue. Why do you think you may be of assistance?"

Maekar rasped out a haphazard chuckle, and pulled a strand of his hair down in front of his face. He gazed at it for a second before pushing it back behind his ear,"That I am, but I have some contacts in the Goldlands, critters in the bushes if you will. The income and levies of my families lands can be made use of too, while I won't be doing any covert missions, you two and some of my men at arms should suffice in that matter."

"Contacts would be most useful. If you could hit them up and find anything on this drug and the maesters, that would be good."

He nodded slowly,"That was my first course of action, if you two will await me at a local tavern, I should have information in a day or two." His brow furrowed, the already present lines in his face deepened as he sank into thought. After a second he continued,"As for Lady Brax, announcing yourself in audience chamber was somewhat foolhardy. The Maesters most likely know you are here already, Oldtown is full of watching eyes and open ears."

Tim nodded "I didn't want to say it... but I also wanted to bring her along as bait. Maybe they'll make a move and we can capitalize on that. Or we'll just collect information." he looked apologetically at Morgan "but maybe some move will be made to silence her. I'll be there to stop it though. Heh, they won't expect me. If you would meet us at the Yellow Shield when you have the information, that will suffice. I have a room there."

Morgan glared at Maekar.
!I do not know you, my lord, but I dislike being scolded by a stranger," she said coolly. "I had to announce myself in order to meet with Lady Hightower. I am well aware that the maesters may have spies in the city and at the Hightower I would be surprised if they had none - but I could hardly come here in disguise and hope to be seen by Lady Hightower."
To Tim, she said "I will take whatever risks I must to deal with the Citadel. I ahve never worn mail, though, and the unaccustomed weight is likely to prove distracting. Now if we could find a mail shirt lighter than most, that would serve. Otherwise I suppose I must be content with strong leathers."
