Much more modest than its predecessor, Eddard's Rest is a well-organized, carefully planned out city of square blocks, straight and wide roads, and a well-defended but modest fortress. Inside the black stone walls of the keep live the royal family and their chief retainers.
Within the keep is a small garden with a fountain, a guard barracks, and the royal family's living quarters, in addition to the great hall itself.

Prince Benjen found himself wandering the halls restlessly, the upcoming trip to Mason's Keep weighing on his mind. He was dressed in simple clothes, a longsword belted at his side purely for appearance. He'd taken to doing so since his last nameday; even Starks have a sense of vanity.

"It suits you, you know; the sword. I've heard so many stories about how well you use it." A smooth voice speaks out to him. He recognizes without looking the tones of Serena Tully, elder of Lord Walther's two daughters. Her red hair, real red, not orange or auburn or cinnamon, extends all the way to the back of her knee, though with her five foot even height, that doesn't seem such an accomplishment.

Benjen turned to face the girl, putting his hand lightly on the hilt of his sword. "I may just use it on that hair of yours if it gets any longer," He replied, a grin passing across his face.

She makes a face, freckles curling up on her nose. "I bet that isn't even sharp enough to cut hair. Nor do I trust your aim that much. I like my head exactly how it is, thank you very much." She's dressed in riding clothes with a thin red cloak. "I should cut it though; terrible nuisance, always caught on bushes and such riding. But father says he'll disown me if I do." She laughed at the thought. Lord Tully was ever known for boisterous and empty threats, but the few times Benjen had ever met him he'd seemed a good sort.

Benjen gave a laugh. "Oh it's sharp alright, and my aim is good, but I fear your father do worse to me should I be the one to cut your hair." He removed his hand from the sword and took Serena's, kissing it lightly.

She doesn't giggle or blush at the handsome prince's kiss, instead nodding regally, as though she were the royalty. "Why, Prince Benjen, your manners have improved over time. Though I suppose that's inevitable; it's been eight years or so after all. You've been gone a long time."

"And I won't be here for long either, at least not for now," Her replied, letting her hand go again. "What with the meeting at Mason's Keep coming up. And after that I may journey Winterfell again. It has been a while since I've visited it." He smirks. "You are welcome to join me of course."

"Oh, you couldn't pay me enough to miss Mason's Keep. Watching those kings and queens and princesses try to act like they don't hate each others' guts? It shall be priceless." She shivers at the mention of Winterfell. "It's getting too cold to head that far north. Maester Gerron says that it will be winter within a few months. I'm northern....but not THAT northern."

Benjen shrugged. "Mason's Keep will be interesting... I have not met any of the other royals in the lands and it'll do good to become acquainted to them. And Winterfell?" He smiled. "Well, the cold up North is refreshing. Makes you feel alive."

Serena gets a disgusted look. "My father had me meet the lion princesses once. I cannot remember which was which, but one of them was just the unholiest little bitch..." she shrugged after a moment. "Well, you are quite welcome to the frozen north, I think. My future husband is going to have to have an appreciation for the good things in life, such as not freezing to death."

"A prince must know his future kingdom well," Brynden stated. "Or so my father always says. I am inclined to believe him." He looks out of a window at the overcast sky. "Marry some Dornishman; apparently the heat down there will make you forget all about the meaning of the word cold."

"Oh, I've considered it." she states matter-of-factly. "Few of them are really worth the trouble, though; too much fighting down near the Reaches. I like trees, after all." She regards him more thoughtfully. "How aren't you married yet?"

"I said no to those who asked," Benjen says with a small laugh. "I guess my father hasn't thought it too important for me to marry yet. Or maybe he has and I've been ignoring him."

"I...guess that makes sense." As she goes to say more, Benjen hears the booming voice of Lord Walther.
"Serena! His Grace awaits!" She turns back around and looks apologetically. "Got to run!" She quickly exits out the nearest exit, headed to the meeting chamber.
As Benjen watches the finer parts of her anatomy move off, a soft and sibilant voice speaks. "My Prince, a rare pleasure. We are not often in the capital at the same time." The voice, naturally, belongs to the legendary spymaster, Malryas Bolton. He is of average height, with neatly cut short brown hair and small mutton chops. He wears a brace of daggers and, in an affectation he only puts on in the capital, is wearing his silver and black cloak with the bronze trim befitting one of King Terrence's personal advisors.
