As they sailed east, Morgan sought out Olyvar at the ship's rail.
"How far east have you been?" She asked.

"Lys," he said. "And the Basilisk islands to trade some with the Order." He leaned on the railing. The sky was sapphire blue and the seas were calm. "Not as far as we're going," he said. "Not by half."

"You could tell me about Lys and the Basilisk Islands if you like," she offered. Then, gazing out to sea, she said quietly "Are you nervous? I am. Much good could come if we succeed, but we'll be entering dangerous waters soon enough, and demon is a word to chill any woman's blood."

"Lys was nice," he said. "It's on a rock, big city, and the architecture is out of this world. But," he said, "there are so many slaves. More than the whole population of Lannisport, I bet." He nodded along with her. "Not just woman's blood," he said.

Her shoulders relaxed a little. "I'm glad. Fears are easier to deal with when others feel the same. I want to see Valyria, truly, but I keep thinking about the risks. Sara is pinning all our hopes on Vhagus but I am not sure I share her confidence, even though I try to pretend. He is still a stranger to us, and he has a dragon." She sighed. "Do you think our quest a strange one?"

"Beyond strange," he said easily. "But potentially world changing. We have three more weeks until we get to Mantarys. Apparently we get a ride from there," he said.

"Oh. And then we will really be in unknown territory." She turned to face him. "Ought we to hire extra guards for the road? It seems wise to take every precaution."

"There won't be a road," he said. "I think some other arrangement has been made. We're supposed to meet with.." he checks the name, "it just says Riley. How useful is just a first name?"

"Not very, truly, unless this person has no other name. They might not be highborn?" She suggested, though a little anxiously. "We'll find out soon enough. I expect he - I assume it's a he? - is accustomed to dealing with any new arrivals they may have."

"We can only hope," he said. "I assume Vhagus wouldn't invite you and Sara four thousand miles to send you to some loser," he didn't sound entirely sure. He points north. "There's Essos!"

She turned back to the rail and gazed towards the distant land. "It looks a little unwelcoming, don't you think? Or maybe that's just because it's unfamiliar." She fell silent for a moment, then said "Let's stay on our guard. There may be pirates in these waters, and only the gods know what else."

"My men are always on guard," he said. "I hope they don't bother you at night. I know they're loud and a bit crude. They're sailors," he shrugged.

"It's fine," she assured him. "I sailed with Lord Cleftjaw for a while. I know what sailors are like. I'll be quick to let you know if any of your men overstep their boundaries, I promise, but I can handle a little noise and some cursing. I don't want your men to tiptoe around me."

"They don't," he said. "But they can't tiptoe on you," he said with a grin. They see ships coming from the east. "That's quite a fleet."
