She had to laugh at that. "You surprise me, ser. I didn't think you were the kind of man who cared about frivolous matters like decorations. What do you make of this business with the Baratheons, though? I've no liking for their house but it is a little sad to see their line wiped out."

"Aaron Baratheon left sons. They should be on their way to Casterly Rock with their mother." replied Arthur. "While they live the Baratheon line still exists. I myself am living testimony of how a family line can survive even when it is at its lowest ebb."

"True enough. But what life will Baratheon's sons have, after everything that has happened? Do you not feel as if your kinsman's actions have cast a shadow upon your own life?" Elissa asked.

Arthur nodded.
"Without a doubt. Were it not for my uncle's rebellion I would likely be Lord of Highgarden now. Still the Tyrells survive and maybe they will rise once again to be Highgarden's lords. If not myself then maybe one of my sons."

"Perhaps, yes. Do you resent your uncle's actions, if I may be so bold as to ask? I know I would, in your place."

"At times. I squired for him in his last campaign you know. My uncle allowed his zeal for the Seven to cloud his better judgement and unscrupulous men took advantage of that fact. He made strategic decisions that I think he normally would not have, such as marching on Kings Landing."

"How unfortunate. I was raised in the Faith of the Seven myself, but I've never been devout. Probably because the septa who taught me as a girl told me I was wicked." She laughed a little. "Your uncle was the enemy of all loyal subjects of the Goldlands, but I am sorry for your loss. Think of him as he was before his rebellion."

"My uncle could inspire great loyalty amongst most of the Reach lords." replied Arthur. "I think many of them hoped for independence from the Goldlands or at least a position of more prominence if one of their own was King. My uncle saw the Goldlands as the bastion of the Faith against the encroachments of the Red God."
He shrugged. "It matters little. Those days are gone"

"Yes. Perhaps you shall be the man to restore House Tyrell to a place of honour," she suggested. "But I truly believe that the Goldlands are strongest when united."

Arthur nodded. "Recent events bear that out my lady." He smiled. "I have no ambitions for my family beyond Highgarden. The Queen is our liege lady and I will continue to serve her loyally."

"I'm glad to hear it. But I fear it will not be an easy path for you," she replied. "I hope you are able to overcome your cousin's actions in time."
