Fortification VS blockade
Iron Islands: 107 Myr: 110
The forts have their own trebuchets, and Frances has had a year to prepare for the no longer so novel Iron Fortresses. His forts take hits but the land troops are disciplined and return fire, and he has far more soldiers available than the combined forces do, and Myr is vastly larger than anything Killion has tried to take so far. Officers are brought in as men are tossed into the toxic scum of the sea.

Killion ordered the Iron Fortresses to continue firing upon the shore defenses until they were out of stones, at which point more would be collected. They would need to be softened up as much as possible before any ground assault could be attempted and without a proper wall, the stones were required for little else. Pitch covered rocks would be fired at night to ensure the enemy received no sleep. Frances was not the only student of psychological warfare.
As always, Killion favored the interrogation style made infamous by Urron Redhand Greyjoy. The officers were tied up to the mast individually as their comrades watched, at which point the Ironborn prince would make an incision in their stomach and shove his hand into their guts, questioning them until they expired. Then the next was brought forward, until none remained.
He asked the typical questions, inquiring about troop numbers and specifics on the defenses. Then a map of the city was brought out, so the officers could painfully point out the updated defenses. Then they were asked to pinpoint a few other locations; high population residential areas, the granaries, the water supply, the barracks, the army encampments, and Frances' keep.
(Intimidation 71 if necessary)

The water supply is done via wells and lakes and a river that is east of the city itself, the barracks are now all over the palce, Frances's primary keep is on a hill overlooking the rest of the city. The officers claim Frances has over forty thousand men available, not counting the fleet. The walls have been reinforced and three full legions of Ghiscari regulars are garrisoning the walls. The city is too large to ever contemplate encircling and the houses are being walled together to form a maze that will have to be deconstructed.

Now the waiting game began, honestly the part every Ironborn hated. Flinging rocks and besieging wasn't in their nature, but it had to be done. He ordered the engineers to inform him when the shore defenses were softened up enough to safely bombard the city. Then he had a surprise for Frances and his city, one he thought even his people would appreciate. There was not much else to do but send out reaving parties and wait for the promised reinforcements to arrive.

It is going to take weeks to soften this city up. Land assaults with real troops will be essential.
Doing a siege roll every day to see how it goes! Troops can raid forts and such. This is intended to be a difficult nut to crack.

I completely understand, just trying to soften them up as much as I can before I put boots on the ground.

January blockade:
Killion: 135 Frances: 147
An Iron fortress is damaged by shore fire, but a small fort north of town is damaged enough to countenance an assault. Sailors are growing ill from the lightly toxic fumes coming off the sea.

Harwyn requests to lead a ground assault on the damaged fort with as many men allowed. The smoke and blood from an assault would be preferable to whatever fumes they're inhaling.

OOC: Could we get the after battle casualty report so I know what I have to work with?

you have 13,700 men right now, 3000 more healing, and 5,000 stormlanders without ships. You lost 4 galleons, and 8 of each of the other ships, and this is after the captured ones are added to your forces.

Killion orders 5,000 men under the command of Harwyn to land and assault the fort. The goal was not to hold or even take the fortification, but in true Ironborn fashion to sabotage the trebuchets within and burn the structure down if possible. All they needed was a dead zone in the defenses so that the Iron Fortresses could move forward and bombard the city proper. The landing ships are of course advised to avoid the iron rods.
