Benjen Stark Gerald Bolton Julia the Lonely Orys
102 fighters, 550 noncombatants, 165 miles to Eastwatch
Every day of the travel a scouting roll is made, an enemy scouting roll is made, and a command roll is made. Command dictates how far the unwieldy column travels that day, while the scouting rolls represent the northmens' attempts to evade the prying eyes of the dead. If the enemy forces out roll the friendly scouting roll by 10 or more, the host is sighted and the armies of the dead will begin their assault.

Day 1: command: 162 (27 miles)
Scouting:
Ben: 141 The Horde: 124
The first day goes extraordinarily well, scouts screening carefully, securing ridges and river crossings, the children still energetic and vibrant, Stark's extensive experience moving large groups paying dividends. By the time they bed down they have covered nearly thirty miles. Feet are sore but the knowledge of certain undeath is a powerful motivator.

As they settle for the night, Julia seeks Ben out. "We did well today,@ she said, looking over the disorganized camp, most of the people simply dropping their few possessions and falling asleep, the autumn air cold but not at all uncomfortable to any northman. "But keeping that pace will be difficult." She drinks some of her Lorathi wine. "Ever had blueberry wine?" She asked, holding the skin out.

"It won't get easier, that's fore sure," Benjen says, now out of his armour, sitting next to a camp fire. "Can't say that I have but I'm willing to indulge." He took the skin, smelt it and had a small sip. "Fear of Oriax will keep us going."

"It had better," she said. "If we stop now the game is over. We cannot fight his hordes for more than a few minutes, and in his host a cook can fight as well as a knight."

"I'm getting as many of these people south of Wall as I can," Benjen stated. "But I won't stop for stragglers. We cannot afford it."

"The teenagers will be fine. The youngest have no prayer without aid," she said sadly. "Have you ever seen the dead fight, prince Benjen?"

Day 2:
138 miles to go, no penalty for command
Benjen: 200 (35 miles covered)
Scouting:
North: 154 Dead: 73
Fear and inspiration cause the people to move massively fast the next day, and while exhaustion is a legitimate concern there's little choice but to simply push through it. Scouts find some of the Grey Man's outriders, or wildlings allied to him, but they are successfully diverted in another direction and then slain.

Day 3:
103 Miles to go
Benjen: 197 (seriously absurd) 33 miles
North: 129 Dead: 134
The dead draw closer as the group nears the halfway point of their journey. The advance scouts have horses and score some deer and game for food, and the meat gives the children energy to move on. The rear scouts report seeing smoke rising from the direction of Hardhome. Either Oriax has found out, or Logan has.

Day 4:
70 Miles to go
Benjen: 123 (20 miles, -5 to all future rolls)
North: 129 Dead: 75
Gerlad Bolton and Orys are true master scouts, apparently, even as the children slow despite Julia and Benjen's constant encouragement, the dead still seem to have missed their trail. Perhaps completely.

Day 5:
50 Miles
Benjen: 128 (21 Miles, -10 now)
North: 99 Dead: 120
The children are enarly spent, and no one else is much better off on the end of the fifth day. Even food and fear do not work forever, and as the group crosses a hill pass, the Wall finally faintly visible, in the evening light Benjen sees a stream of movement approaching from the northwest. just under thirty miles remain, and a scout has been sent ahead to Eastwatch to try brining some of the Night's Watch to assist with the last bit of distance, horses and maybe a boat for the coast. Julia watches in the valley as the host begins to enter it. "What do we do?" she whispered to Ben. "We can't outrun them...they don't need air or sleep."

Benjen frowned as he stared into the distance at the approaching horde. "We will have to make a fighting retreat," he said finally. "The children go in front, with those who can't fight. They will have to go quick, use the last of their energy."
His hand went to the hilt of the sword. "They will still need a head start, while those able to fight line up. We'll try holding them as long as we can before breaking for it."

Everyone is silent at that. Gerald frowns. "All that work and they beat us here because they never tire..." He mumbled. He had been with Benjen since the first Vale war, and this was the only time he'd ever looked scared. "Cut my head off if they fucking catch me," he said.
Julia fingered her bow nervously. "I guess This is as good a place as any. Gravity still effects them." Orys commanded three of his brothers to lead the no combatants.
"This is why they built the fuckin' Wall," he mumbled. "Not man."

Benjen was tired, worn down and achey but he'd felt this way before. Too many times. "If we can hold them off long enough for these people to cross the Wall then the war will be that much easier." He turned to the men. "We fight for the living today! For every man, woman and child below the Wall, so that they may live! Men of the Night's Watch - let us hear your words!"
