The man nods. "We appreciate the generosity. The bandits get worse as you leave the republic," he warned. "Ain't no honor in the frontier lands with those Tullys."

Lyonel breathed a sigh of relief, as the caravan began to move again. The fact they were carrying stones seemed to have escaped detection.

The next day the caravan comes to a small stream. It's in a wooded area and a small holdfast overlooks it. This is the first tiny fortress that looks untouched by war they have seen in almost four days,

Upon seeing the holdfast, and raising that it might well be occupied by bandits, Lyonel moved his men to a secluded spot where he could observe the comings and goings from the holdfast, but yet could not be seen by them. After setting a watch, he moved to a suitable vantage point where he could watch the gates and signal his men at the same time. His squire waited a short distance, ready to help him into the saddle if they needed to move quickly.
He watched intently as Korben and the caravan approached the holdfast.

The gates are closed and a lone archer appears. "Welcome to Rider's Creek!"

Korben looks up to the archer and the gate, "Greetings to you as well, Stranger....quite the lovely place you've got here..." Korben says as he looks around facetious, as if he were taking in the untouched landscape for the first time. "Might I ask who rules this Creek? I'd like to ask for a place to stay the night. Its been a long ride for all of us..." He says as he motions to the caravan.

"The people rule the creek!" The archer says. "All of us, like the gods intended." He looks to him. "Can't fit all of you, but we got an inn half a mile down and some farmers who could use the coin. Welcome to the Republic!"

"What Republic?" Korben asks, a confused look on his face.

"Our lords left us to starve. Knights taking first night with our wives, we grew tired. Elected our own leaders. This is our land, and we want it ruled by our values, not some rich woman sitting on her ass in Lannisport."

"Every land has to have a leader though, even when its by the people..." Korben remarks at the mans words, "So whose your leader? Be nice to know who I aught to speak nice words about."

"Jessup Hill is the sheriff of the area. He's away with some men hunting the bandits been plaguing us all for the last year." The archer looks about. "They ain't bothered you yet?"

"Surprisingly, no. I suppose a chest of coin destined for the riverlands is considered too lowly for bandits." Korben said mockingly, "Many thanks, good sir. You've been a good help..." Korben says as he orders the men to move on to the inn. While he had wanted to gather information, a chance to regroup and rest a while might do their group some good.

The village is small but the inn is well stocked and maintained, and the proprietor is a woman in her early forties named Anna. She nods to the gentlemen. "Welcome! Hope you like cold ale and hot food!"

. While he had wanted to gather information, a chance to regroup and rest a while might do their group some good. Keeping to the wooded area in order that it might afford them some shelter and also for concealment, Lyonel moved to a spot where they could observe the inn. After setting the usual sentries and extra observers on the inn itself, Lyonel's men settled down for the night.

Hope you like cold ale and hot food!" "Thank you Ma'am. Tis much appreciated..." Korben says as he looks around the inn, nodding his head as he takes a seat. "This is a lovely little corner you've got here, Ma'am. Do bandits ever trouble you around these parts?" He asks, crossing his arms in front of himself as a gives a polite smile.
