The dig site is large and set in the midst of a dead forest with red earth. When the company arrives the slaves have dug down enough to reveal with seems like the roof of a structure though it is completely flat and made of stones so large it would take the strength of dozens of men to move them. The slaves have uncovered a doorway that they have not breached. The door is covered in odd symbols and runes is at an angle along with the stone walls. The walls are slanted so that the go into the structure like the walls had collapsed on themselves. So far there doesn't seem to be windows in the top floor of this buried structure.
They have found a few skeletons, preserved a little too well. Were they recent? It was hard to tell even for the keen observer.

With Saera's command the group enters into the pitch black interior of the...whatever it was. Tomb? Castle? Building? They would hopefully find out.
The lights of the torches and lanterns illuminate the dark hall that leads them forward into a massive room, which make them all feel incredibly small and insignifcant. In the centre is a pedestal with what look to be two statues at either side. When they near the shapes they can see that on the pedestal is a skull with more of the writing on and around the pedastal. The statues are huge carvings of men in cloaks. Their hands rest on the hilts of stone blades and the only features of their hooded faces that are carved are of strong wide jaws.
Kano bumps into one of the mercs as he gawks at how huge everything is one the inside. He had no weapon.
"Where did Tess go damn it?" He asked loudly..

Myles gets bumped into by Kano and rolls his eyes at the man. He begins looking around the room for signs of recent activity/disturbances. Looking to find where Tess went. Myles would leave the fancy symbols and relics to the academics with them.

Saera wentto look at the closest statue. She held her lantern high to check whether there was anything unusual about the statues, making particular attention to the wide jaws and the sword.

Seeing as the coast was clear Kano went up to the statues to look over any inscriptions.
"Utterly dissapointing," he declared. "All this talk and work for a room with two statues and a skull."

Myles would leave the fancy symbols and relics to the academics with them. The floor is slightly dusty so as he looks around he can definitely make out the way they had come. There is no other footprints and disturbances from the areas he is searching so he could conclude that Tess only came toward the statues.

They were unusual in their entirety. The stony carvings had an abscence of detail around the face but the hands were done exquisitely. The hands were large and the fingers were longer than any normal person's. The swords were carved separately and looked like they could be looted.

The lack of tracks was concerning enough for Myles to speak up about it. He scratches his head as he brings it up. "There doesn't seem to be any tracks indicating Tess went anywhere in this room beside right up to those statues. I could be wrong but with blood opening a door I would advise caution going near those things."

As Inuh glances around the room, he does one of the things done so rarely. He looks up, just in case.

Bartrand walked close to where the light of the torches was, not liking the pitch blackness of this space. He has his knife drawn, and an arm up over his nose and mouth. Old places with sealed entrances usually meant stagnant, repugnant air. As the others looked around, some looking for tess, bartrand looked towards the pedestal, the two status and the skull that sat upon the center.

The stone sword slowly moved towards her and she and the group could hear click-clacking of something like gears or chains being pulled from somewhere unseen. The floor started opening up below them to reveal a staircase going down.

Saera turned to her men.
"All of you, with me! There's a staircase."
She held up her lamp to illuminate the way ahead, looking to see if there was anything particularly interesting about the staircase and surrounding area.

Inuh called out a second after. "Might want to look up, first. Don't think we're the first ones to walk in here."
