The maester nods as her father does. "Rest is good, my lady," he says. He is dismissed.
"What do you think, Morgan?"

"He seems loyal," she said, much relieved. "But we need to watch him, and monitor the ravens. Even if Walther is truly loyal to us, he may receive word from the Hightower while we wait for a response to my letter. We will have to monitor all letters we receive ourselves, because Walther might receive letters from both factions at the Citadel. We don't even know if the current Seneschal is part of the cult or not." She paused, thinking. "If they are as powerful as they claimed, I'd think they'd be able to influence who gets to be Seneschal each year, and make sure it's their own men as much as possible. But we just don't know. Should we write to the Grand Maester too?"

"Of course. I'm truly sorry, Father. I had no idea it would come to this." She swallowed. "wWhat happened to Mother? I heard rumours, but..you know what rumours are like."

"Heart," he said. "The rumors weren't true. We went to bed one night, and she never woke up," he sighed.

She clapped a hand to her mouth. Her eyes welled up again. "Oh...oh Mother." A sob came out with the last word and she couldn't speak for a moment. "What happens now> I think they might come after me."

"Good. I want to ruin them," she said fiercely. "We need to find out who will support us. Somehow we have to make sure their horrid lies don't spread too far."

"Olyvar Manderly. He applied to become a novice at the same time I did, and he was the only one of my roommates who did not turn against me. He's my friend," she said firmly. "He says that he will be able to rally Northern support against this cult at the Citadel. He was never as naive as I was about it, truly, but when he found out what happened, he knew he couldn't stay. He rescued me, Father."

"Then he will be rewarded," Lord Brax said. "Haave him sent to me when you leave, my dear." He turns to look outside. "And send Garen in, too. This next discussion is for him and I."

"I will," she said. "Thank you, Father." She was relieved he hadn't asked too many questions. "I'll speak to you later, after I've eaten and bathed." She kissed his cheek.
Next she went to find Garen. "My lord father wishes to see you now," she said. Then she went down to the great hall and found a servant. "Where is Olyvar Manderly? My father would like to see him?"

"We're just friends.". She hurried across to the guest quartets to find Olyvar. " My father would like to see you. Do you have everything you need?"
