Nightsong is the seat of House Caron. The formidable castle is located in the Dornish Marches in the southwestern stormlands, north of the Prince's Pass and the Red Mountains. The castle is known for its Singing Towers.
The lands are rolling hills, becoming hillier and wilder the further south one goes.

Ser Lyonel Vikary moves into the lands surrounding Nightsong with five hundred mounted troops under his command. He attacks and burns small undefended villages as well as crops and other supplies, before moving on. Outriders are sent out from his operations to keep an eye out for any retaliation by local forces. Lyonel has made it clear his men that they will not engage forces sent out to repel them, but will move on.

Nightsong is virtually denuded of defenders, and Ser Lyonel and his men can plunder and loot at will. Word from prisoners and the like indicate that Jonarth Storm has taken all the men into the mountains to prepare for battle.

Lyonel was surprised at the lack of resistance and his curiousity about why, leads him to issue orders for his men to question any prisoners they take, for information about the number of defenders at Nightsong and where Lord Caron might be.

The Dornish have held Nightsong for twelve years, but the lords have vacated the castle, leaving a few hundred defenders.

Not enough to take the castle himself thought Lyonel with a hint of disappointment. However if the King and the Prince moved quickly Nightsong would fall equally as quickly.
He wondered if he could lure some of the defenders out.
Scrawling a message on a bit of sheepskin found in one of the villages, he beckoned to one of his men, giving him instructions to bear the message of what he had found, to where the western host waited.
Then he ordered his men to move within sight of Nightsong and without coming in range of arrow fire from the walls, destroy everything around the castle. Lyonel hoped that at least some of the defenders would sally out, where he could deal with them on the open plain.

The defenders are outnumbered, and while he does draw some stray arrow shots, they lack the forces to sally forth.

After failing to draw the defenders out, Lyonel decided to leave Nightsong to the western host, who would soon know the situation via his message. He decided to move north towards Summerhall to see if he could find any sign of Frances Dayne.

Moving northeast, his men start seeing more signs of the Vulture's men. After a week of travel, he arrives is within a short distance of Summerhall. He can barely see the castle from a tall hill to the southwest of it. It appears normal.

Lady Neera Fowler comes out onto her battlements. "Quite an army," she says drily.

"It is, isn't it?" Benjen responded with a warm smile. "Quite a castle, but who do you hold it for? Jonarth Storm? Bryce Dayne?"

Korben rides with the western host, accompanying the prince as he looks towards the castle nightsong. The area seemed desolate, and the castle walls bare of arches. He couldn't help but frown at the reminder of kings landings fall, not liking the thought of it sitting in dornish hands.

"Lord Bryce," she said. "But moreso for my son at Kings landing, my prince." "Understandable!" Benjen called up. "I don't want your son to die either, Lady Fowler. Bryce Dayne and the Vulture is who I'm after! How many men do you have in that castle?"
