She stared down at her new quarters in dismay. Turning to Olyvar, she said "If you are truly my friend, will you speak for me? You have been a good friend in this short time. I'd do the same for you, if I had to."

"I'll back up whatever you say," he said. "But they'll try claiming I slept with you. I told you, Morgan, there's no depths those in power will drop to to keep their monopoly on power."

"I suppose not, but I am hardly a threat. I hold no lands and lead no armies. I'm not even wealthy in my own right. All I want is knowledge and for my own mind's growth. I have no burning desire for power. They are targeting the wrong person."
She sighed. "And these are the men who safeguard the greatest hoard of knowledge in the land."

"Control is allyou possess, Morgan," he said. "And these old fools have no lands or armies either, just dusty books and an unshakeable belief in their own superiority.'

She rolled her eyes. "Let's hope that some of them actually believe that knowledge should be available for all. In the meantime, at least I shall have a little privacy tonight."

"If it was public," Olyvar said, "they'd lose their power. Westeros ignorant and weak is what they dream of."

She sighed again. "You are probably right. But that is not my dream and I will fight for what I think is right. And now I had better rest. Tomorrow won't be pleasant. I have no friends here other than yourself and Sara."

Morgan is woken up by two stern looking old men. "Morgan Brax?" They ask simultaneously.

She pushed her hair out of her eyes with one hand. "Yes. I am Morgan Brax," she confirmed.

"You are hereby arrested for lewdness and impersonating a novice of the Citadel. Get dressed and follow us," the man on the right says.

"I am innocent of both charges," she said. "And so I swear in the sight of the Seven. But I will come."
She hurriedly pulled on her clothes over her undergarments.

She is taken, not to the lady Arania's chambers of judgment, but to some small building next to the Citadel. Two armed men flank her now, and she is taken down two flights of stairs in the grey cold building. At the bottom of the stairs she is hustled to a small room, a single seat and podium in it. A dozen or so men stand around it in a circle. The man behind the podium points. "Morgan Brax, You stand accused of lewdness, of vile fornications, and of lying on your admission papers, claiming to be a man to enter our esteemed institution."

She looked at the man accusing her. "I lied about my name and my sex, yes, because I came before I heard about Lady Arania's plan to admit women to the Citadel. I came to study, the same as any man. All I ever wanted to was to read and study to my heart's content, but I could not come here under my own name. Had I known about Lady Arania's plan before I came, I would not have lied. I made sure to advise Lady Arania of my true name as soon as I heard." She paused, took a deep breath. "I am not guilty of either lewdness or fornication. The last thing I would ever want is to engage in carnal relations with the men of the Citadel."

"You saw your roommates in states of various undress, yes? You lived with five men?" The maesters, or whatever they are, all shake their heads in shame. "You will silence your mouth about the Lady of Oldtown. This is a Citadel concern." The mens' tones are venomous.
"A noblewoman sullying herself so. The moral fiber of the youth is rotten to its core," one man intones. "How many did you consort with?"

"None, she said firmly. "I saw the young men unclothed, yes, but only because there was no way to avoid it. I was careful never to remove my undergarments. I sought to be civil to the young men in my quarters, but no more. I am not even sure most of them even know my true name. I swear by all the gods that I never touched any of those men, nor allowed them to touch me."
