I thought the point of the scene was that it will be Theon's breaking point. That's why we were focused on Theon throughout it. As bad as the rape was for Sansa and any implications it causes for her characterization, in this case I think the intended purpose was on Theon seeing his Stark past literally being raped by Ramsey. We Ward of Winterfell now.

And he stood there and let it happen?

Well, Jeyne was forced to have sex with Ramsay's dogs after receiving oral sex from Theon or have her feet cut off. So they DID tone down the TV scene a lot.

I always thought the dog sex was a threat if she misbehaved, not that it had actually happened.

i didnt know dany's rise to power was based solely on drogo dying, nor is drogo an accurate comparison to ramsey.

Not solely but it was still a part of it. And rape is rape.

yes rape is rape...but the quote you put in there is so utterly dishonest i had to say something. claiming dany's rise to power is because of losing drogo is such an utter misreading of the character its...i dont even know what to call it.
i think there can be a parellel between sansa and dany...but their situations and motivations are different in context.
CONTEXT PEOPLE!!!

Yeah, there are definitely some differences but on the simple basis of "vulnerable person ends up loving their rapist" it is the same. That's what it's saying.

im not sure dany has even brought up drogo in the tv series after the first season. so its hard to say she still loves him or uses drogo as a motivation

Dany's love with drogo comes from her increased self worth despite his belittlement, he sees her as a brood mare because she thinks she is, she gains her power independently, and views herself as Drogos equal, and so he does, then they fall in love. It's not brilliant, but the love comes from a position of strength.
Sansa was in a place of power, in her home, having some empowering scenes, with Miranda and theon, then the rape comes after she has some strength back, crushing that.
Dany was away from what she knew, had been constantly reduced by her brother, and grew, Sansa can only go down.

Dany made a conscious choice to identify with Dothraki customs and it helped her a lot. Sansa will never identify as a Bolton.
