Biography
The younger brother of Torwold Goodbrother, Harwyn knew from a young age that his place would not be in their hall above the mines, growing rich on the price of iron over the iron price. His lust for battle and glory earned him a strong reputation at an early age, even though Harwyn showed little aptitude at sea, unlike many Ironborn. When the calls came for raiding, however, Harwyn was a commander few dared to challenge. His reputation spread across the shores of Westeros faster than a summer islander's legs, earning him a number of bounties on his head until he went silent at the age of twenty-five. Few outside of the immediate family knew that Torwold had fallen gravely ill, possibly at the hand of an assassin targeting him, and Harywn quietly led the House while his brother remained the figurehead, quickly hiring and befriending a steward. After his recovery, Harwyn remained in Hammerhorn until his reputation had faded for all but his most stalwart enemies and lords who had lost the most. At the age of thirty-three, Harwyn returned to the shores of Westeros with some of the most experienced raiders he had known over the years, with the steward in hand to strike out a new living on Westeros as mercenaries, judging the thriving conflict to be an untapped market while the efficiency of their raids plummeted. Harwyn now leads fifteen hundred men ranging from battle hardened raiders to deserters and trained peasants wherever glory and gold take them.
After encountering numerous foes, including four demons, in service to the Iron Islands Harwyn has returned to the station of bannerman over mercenary. Only the Ironborn remain, those to weak of body and mind having fallen for the greater good. Money and women, that is.
With his brother Torwold now deceased, Harwyn leads House Goodbrother, intending to return the name to fame through the crushing conquest of any who would oppose them.
For his service to the Iron Islands, Harwyn Goodbrother was made Captain of half of the Iron Fleet. It is no secret among the Ironborn that he looks back towards home.
Reputation
Known as an unparalleled leader and raider among the Ironborn, Harwyn won the ire of lords from the Riverlands to the Reach with his brutal raiding, leaving few survivors and fewer women. His harem of salt wives was rumored to be near fifteen before his brother's illness, when he had them all executed in case they had been responsible.
Upon his return to the Ironborn, he also earned the status of Wanted in the North for the destruction of Karhold.
This pleases him.
