"I am sure he does not, Ser Garen, else you would have my sister with you," Benjen replied, clearly not wishing to fuck about. "I understand your men and my sister got into a bit of a scuffle earlier on. My sincerest apologies."

Garen's smile never wavers. "My prince understands that hostages fairly taken in war are ransomed, not released. Surely this has been the custom of all Westeros for millenia. I assure you she has not been harmed." He shrugged. "My men were crass and drunk. No excuse, but one lost his hand for his foolish tongue, and say the word and he shall lose that offending piece as well."

Robyn looks at Lord Garen, not really believing he was not offended by the fighting. She knew she should say something by way of apology also, but the words caught in her throat, most likely because she was not in the least bit sorry.

"There does not need to be more blood shed," Benjen responded, studying the man for a long moment. "You were sent here for a reason, I imagine."

The knight tries momentarily to decide if that statement is rhetorical or just asinine. He cannot make up his mind. "King Bryce has conquered Dorne, and the Stormlands are bending the knee to him. As far as he is concerned, his war is over. The Faith and King Rycherd seem to disagree." Garen continues after a breath. "When Prince Aaron is defeated, and King Derek's power is broken, perhaps we will take King's Landing, perhaps you will. Either way, peace is the only sensible answer to our...issues." He opens his hands as if pleading. "King Bryce offers you your sister in exchange for eighteen months of peace. No man sworn to Starfall shall inhibit the North in any way, and in the interim a more permanent solution can be worked out."

Benjen listened intently, his mind racing. Finally he nodded. "I will discuss this with my father, Ser Garen. In the meantime I hope you find Riverrun to your comfort. I will have an answer for you by tomorrow."

Ser Garen nods and bows to both of them again, then leaves.

"That son of a bitch!" Benjen grunted after waiting for long enough for Ser Garen to be out of earshot.

"What exactly were you expecting?" Robyn asked, "Reasonable demands?"

"Of course not, but does the bastard have to be so smug about it?" Benjen growled, stepping to the window and looking out. "Robyn, your thoughts on the offer?" For the first time that day Benjen let the more fragile aspect of his personality show.

"Either... lose momentum or lose Meera?" She said, as a sister, she knew what choice she'd make, as a ruler... if she was in Benjen's shoes she did not know what she'd do.
She thought of a way to say that Meera was less important than the kingdom... but she could not think of it, though Benjen had said it himself.

"Peace would give us Meera and time to deal with the Tyrells and the Faith. All the while Bryce Dayne secures his grip upon Dorne and eventually the Kingsland." He frowned. "But if we fight now then we just face multiple enemies and the likelihood that we will not see our sister again."

"There are risks with whatever you choose. At least if we get Meera back, we are guaranteed done positive outcome," Robyn suggested, "in the end, it is down to the king."

"I will speak to father soon, though I doubt he is in the state of mind to make a rational decision right now," Benjen replied. "Robyn, a drink?" He asked, opening a bottle of whiskey and pouring one glass to the brim, another at the ready.

Unlike ale, Robyn was fond of whiskey, and nodded, "please," she remembered her manners, "after today, I think we need one"
