The river that is located bear the village of Brimstone. It flows calmly through the desert, the land immediately surrounding it mildly fertile. The river at this point is roughly thirty yards across.

In the afternoon, Ser Borros meets up with his paramour by the river as planned for their snake hunt. His white tunic is drenched through with sweat from the day's heat and black hair sticks to his brow.

Alanna wore a faded tunic and tan breeches, her usual attire. She carried her spear, as ever.
"For a moment I feared you wouldn't come," she said. "Busy day?"

"Nothing too harrying. Another day in Brimstone." he replied, wiping the sweat from his brow, thankful he had foregone the armor this morning. "How was your own?"

She smiled at him.
"Well enough. I have been walking around the village talking to the people, helped old widow Mellei repair her roof, gave some of the older boys a lesson in spearwork. Brats, the lot of them, but we might need them soon." She frowned, thinking of the trouble brewing in Dorne. "I hope the high lords let us be."

In the distance, to the north, the two can see a rider approaching the village, riding directly towards them at breakneck speed. It is hard to make out much, though as the rider approaches they can tell it is a man, carrying a strange bundle. He seems to be shouting but is too far away to be heard.

"One can only hope."
Borros had just been about to recommend a spirited dip in the river, when he noted the rider on the horizon. With a heavy sigh, he walks out to the edge of town to meet the man, hand resting upon the pommel of his falchion.

Alanna followed, walking with a fast, confident stride. She narrowed her eyes, trying to make out some clue as to who the rider was.

The rider swiftly got closer and it became evident that he was injured, his leg wrapped in a part of his shirt and some blood caked on his forehead. His horse looked close to death, evidently having ridden for a long time in the sun.
Closer still and they could see that the bundle was... a child, wrapped in a blanket, its face covered in bloody bandages.
"Help! Please help her!" The man was shouting, his voice now clear as he was fifty yards away.

Alanna glanced at Borros as her conscience stirred. "We have to help them." She began to walk faster.

Hearing the cry and noting the child, Borros broke out in a run towards the rider, not even feeling the Dornish sun bear down upon him in the moment.

When they reach the man he halted his horse, which looked close to collapsing. He jumped from the saddle and held out the child, a girl apparently.
"Thank the gods," He said, visibly shaken. "I'm not sure if she'll make it but you have to try, please!"
He was tall, with black hair and blue eyes, which had heavy bags under them. Evidently he hadn't slept in a while.

"Take the horse and girl to Harlan." Orros told Alanna, losing his easygoing air and taking on an authoritative tone.
"What happened?" he asked the stranger.

Alanna nodded and sprang into the saddle with ease. "Hand the child up to me," she instructed. "I'll take her back at once."

"Riders," The man said, handing the girl to Alanna. "They came to White Dunes two nights ago." He shook his head. "They killed everyone..."
He coughed into his hand and shuddered, before kneeling at the Brimstone and cupping a hand of water to his mouth. "It was that bastard Frances Dayne."
