"You will, if they say so. And Princess Kelsey would love some company, I'm sure," Lauren says. "But, make sure the princess gets on her ship and sails off to a better place, and I will give you a cover." She looks about.

Morgan frowned and folded her arms. "I'm listening." Her mind was already racing to what she would say if her parents raised the issue of Volantis. She wouldn't go there for all the gold in Casterly Rock. And she was still not sure she believed her parents would go that far in order to have her married off. Surely they cared about her enough to want her to stay in the Goldlands.

"I have a betrothal for you. A betrothal so tempting your parents cannot ignore it, yet so unlikely that it will never have to go further than that." Lauren smiles. "A phantom husband."

"Who is it?" She knew it was not wise to be so direct but she was in no mood for beating about the bush.

Lauren sighs. "Prince Cassius Targaryen."

Morgan was initially speechless. She had no idea what she was even supposed to say to that. It took her a minute or two to recover her voice.
"I see. My mother will surely jump at that, though it will have to be done cleverly, to satisfy my father. He wishes me to marry, yes, but it's not so easy to fool him. Let's say for now that I agree. What happens next?"

"You go to Casterly Rock and make sure Kelsey gets on that damn boat. Our alliance with Volantis is far too important to risk letting her get in her head she is allowed to just run off and marry some shepherd." Lauren's eyes narrow. "Fail me in this and I can find you a husband tomorrow."

Morgan stared at Lauren. "Fine, I will go to the princess. But I cannot believe a princess would wish to marry a shepherd or any man of low birth. Not for anything."

"I couldn't care less what you believe. Deal with that imbecile or I'll make sure your lord father gets a giant dowry from the Last Bloody Hearth." Lauren strides out.

Morgan scowled at the open door. She felt a very unladylike urge to throw something heavy at Lauren's back. She still didn't know how much was threat and how much was truth but she would have to find out. Somehow.
