Prince Benjen was sat in a chair, reading a book by the great Rickon Stark. When Oriax entered he looked up.
"Ah, come in. Did you enjoy the book?"

"Yes, it was...enlightening." Oriax replied, striding inside.
He wore gloves over his cracked and scarred hands, a fresh white robe replaced the burned one.
"I do hope this is a better time to talk?"

"Of course, please come in," Benjen said, standing and offering Oriax a chair. "Wine? Whiskey? Ale? Anything you have a particular taste for?"

"Golden wine from the Jade Sea if you have any." Oriax replied, taking a seat. "Water will suffice otherwise."

It just so happened that, miraculously, Benjen had received some as a wedding present (not a joint one, he knew Catherine would hate to share with anyone else). He poured a cup and offered it to Oriax, while taking a whiskey for himself. "Any insights?"

Pleasantly surprised, Oriax drank from the goblet with immense satisfaction. Other wines simply paled in comparison.
"This is not the first time the ritual was attempted, nor was Valyria." Oriax said, explaining his findings. "The tome traces a narrative of the Doom from cities in Sothoryos, to Valyria Essos, to the most recent attempt here."

"How recent? Perhaps by related culprits?" Benjen asked. "I know that Lord Dayne is supposedly one of the most feared sorcerors at the moment, though I do not recall ever hearing about him traveling east."

"This has been attempted over millenia, the Doom of Valyria likely being the result of a botched attempt." Oriax replied. "It requires an immense magical source to be carried out. With Valyria destroyed, it seems your Isle of Faces was a suitable alternative. I recommend you keep it patrolled at all times."

"We shall, thank you Master Oriax," Benjen said, taking a ship from his whiskey. "It was the sap that powered Cassadar, no? Or the weirwoods themselves?"

"The sap and the blood mixture, I believe." Oriax speculated. "Though whatever ritual they performed amplified the inherent power."

"A disturbing thought; it makes me wonder at the connections," Benjen replied. "Did the Children of the Forest know of the sap's properties? Probably, but in this context." He shook his head. "I am left wondering who the mastermind behind all this was."

"The sap seems a substitute for the magic inherent in Valyria during its golden age." he said, taking another sip of his wine. "Whateve original purpose the Children of the Forest had for it, the ritualists perverted it."
"As for the mastermind, I am curious about that myself. This Cassadar seemed too ignorant to have been more than a pawn."

"I agree," Benjen said, moving to look out of one of the windows. "He mentioned Harrys, when he was dying... my uncle, if you can believe it. I am unsure whether he is the one in charge of everything or just another servant of an even greater threat."

"I intend to find out before I return to Asshai." he replied, remembering the threat of the encroaching Shadow.
