"What if someone is using the other end?" he asks out loud, a shudder going through him as he upturned all the lids and then climbed into the latrine...looking like his life was ending... "This never leaves the castle..." he said, making a solemn pact with Arthur, "If anyone asks... we fought out way in"

With the grim look of someone about to be hanged, Arthur tied the cleanest-looking rag over his mouth and nose to help him cope with the horrific smell. "The things I do for this country," he mumbled, stepping into the latrine as well. He gave Kyle a grave nod, obviously agreeing with what he'd said. With that, they presumably.. dug in, towards the general direction of the door in question.

Disgust "reaches" new lows as the man squirm through the waste. After fifteen minutes they may be far enough. They can go longer, though.

Arthur listened for a moment to make sure if coast was clear, so to speak. If affirmative, he would try to get a good look, and maybe even climb out.

There are no bare asses over his head. Thank god.

He would have gladly made a winning gesture, but this was hardly the time or place for one. He climbed out of that dark hole and offered a hand to Kyle to pull him out as well. Then, he swiftly moved to the door and opened it just a little to get a look outside.

Kyle took the offered hand, and also went to the door, to see if he could see something the other couldn't about coats being clear or any sign of danger

Guards are roving the halls in pairs. The two smell terrible so staying hidden long is not a reasonable option. They hear shouts echoing down the hallways, though, coming from farther on.

After removing the cloth from his face and cleaning himself with it as best as he could, Arthur looked to Kyle, doing his best to ignore the smell. "We could jump two of them for the uniforms," he offered. He looked around for any water.

"I don't think uniforms are gonna cover this smell," kyle said... And looked around to see if there was any water, that would help.

There is a bowl of water used for washing hands though its dirty. Not as dirty as the two of them though.

Kyle looked at the water with his nose upturned, but it was better than the alternative, and though going first would be a lot better than going second this time round. He did wonder if it would be better to get the guard uniforms, and then wash off... but it would make getting the uniforms harder.
He considered that he might be over thinking things... yes...
He dipped his hands into the water, and started to wash his face and hands and the skin he could get to.

Arthur followed his lead. "We are not going back the way we got here," he said, trying to sound resolute, but sounded more like someone who'd just been scarred for life.

The smell will simplynot wash all the way out. Days of soap and scrubbing would be needed, but they can get their appearance to something approaching the overly committed janitorial style.

After that, Arthur looked outside again to see if there were any potential guards they could silently snatch up for a swift change of attire.
