Ashford is a castle and town that lie next to the Cockleswent in the Reach. It is the seat of House Ashford. The town has whitewashed houses with thatched roofs. Ashford Castle lies next to the town. It is built in the shape of a triangle. It has round towers at each point, thirty feet tall. Between the towers run thick crenellated walls.

Lord Dyther Ashford is a man well past fifty, stout, formerly a warrior of renown, but with a crippled arm suffered battling a rebellious bannerman some years ago. He nods, his back too sore to bow. "Lord Rycherd. The cold is bringing back my aches. You have quite the force, here; always a pleasure to see the Reach's power displayed."

"Lord Ashford. I thank you for your hospitality." said Rycherd. Rest assured that most of us will not stay long, although we shall leave a force under Lord Rowan here to augment your garrison, in case of further trouble. Ser Denys, is he presently at Ashford?"

"He is, my lord, have you need of him? He is recently wed, and has been enjoying the comforts of a loving wife."

"Then I shall need to congratulate Ser Denys." replied Rycherd courteously. "I do have need of him, but he may remain in the arms of his loving wife at nights. If you would send for him now, I would appreciate it."

"Of course. SQUIRE! Fetch my son...the younger one!" A lad runs off, returning a few minutes later with the short but powerfully built Denys Ashford. He bows.
"My lord. You have need of me?"

"That I do Ser Denys." replied Rycherd, his steady gaze sizing up the man.
"Your renown as my cousin's commander along the Dornish and Stormlands border has reached me in Highgarden. As such, I wish to place you in command of the forces that will remain here at Ashford. Lord Rowan here will act as your second in command. You will respond with these forces as needed, ether northwards or eastwards as per my command, but otherwise remain at Ashford."

"Of course, Lord Tyrell." He nods correctly. "We'll be there when you need us." He looks about the room for Lord Rowan. "I certainly don't wish to offend a lord in his own host, of course."

"I shall expect that you consult Lord Rowan on matters of war and battle, but Lord Rowan knows your ability and knows also that it is greater than his own." replied Rycherd.
"How many men do you have here at Ashford?"

"Raised? A thousand. There's been no sign from any of our scouts as to a threat, my lord. We raised some in preparation for your arrival." Denys shrugs. "We can change that if necessary...but I don't need five thousand men to bring you a victory. I promise you that."

Rycherd grinned. "No, you most likely don't. But in any case you will have Lord Rowan's men, Brightwater Keep's men and your own garrison. That will be sufficient, no?"
