Lord Yronwood rides west out of the siege camp, two hundred and fifty Dornish knights riding behind him, followed by an equal number of Warrior's Sons, all mounted. Leaving Ser Ghaston in charge of the main army outside Blackhaven, Yronwood moves his force of horsemen toward Grandview, his scouts ranging far ahead of his main force to bring advance word of when the enemy is sighted.
He searches for any spot that is even remotely suitable for a host of riders to lay an ambush for a marching column, and it is a race to reach such a spot along the enemy's path, before the enemy scouts reported their location. Ser William Marshall rides with Lord Yronwood, as well as his newest scout, Drell Maconis.

Ser Roland Connington rides at the head of the two hundred and fifty Warrior's Sons, beside Lord Yronwood. He had been briefed on the objectives by Ser Ghaston and told to follow the orders of the Bloodroyal. He was eager to be riding against the enemies of the Faith, even if they were his own countrymen. He prayed that those in the Stormlands that remained faithful to the Seven would not take up arms at the sight of the seven-pointed star on their banners. Especially with news of the atrocity committed at Baelor's Sept.

He rides somewhat behind Lord Yronwood, keeping his eyes on the horizon for the army he saw before, having given his report to Yronwood earlier that day. "I wonder how far they've made it since we saw them."

Yronwood shrugged. "The scouts will tell us soon enough, but they cannot have moved far; you were only 50 and can cover the distance far faster than an army. I want to pick a spot to hit them from as they march and if you catch sight of Lord Morrigen I want you to put a quarrel in his throat. Our goal is to hit them and retreat safely, but if you have a shot... I'll see you well rewarded," he replied.

The column of men setting forth from Grandview is large, eight thousand strong. the banners of House Morrigen fly in the center of the column, the stag of Baratheon in the van, and banners from all the Stormlands through the rest.
The Dornish and Warrior's Sons slay every scout they find, and manage at last to find their place; a clear path on the road, the hill leading down to it open, perfect for a cavalry charge.

Lord Yronwood arrays his men just behind the crest of the hill so that they are invisible from the road. They are divided into two large wedges, angled to hit the same spot in the enemy column as it comes down the road. Outriders are kept out in force to screen their position from any hostile eyes, and the banners are struck and packed. The men are ordered to pack up their plate armor away onto the packhorses that carry supplies; they were already riding light and some surely would grumble about going into battle with only chainmail, but they would stop doing so if a quick getaway was what saved their lives.
Yronwood waited, until the Stormland forces began to become visible down the road. Both groups knew that Lord Morrigen's banner was the target when the signal to charge was given, but they would follow Lord Yronwood's lead if spotted before Morrigen became a target.

"May I request the honor of the Warrior's Sons spearheading the charge, my lord?" Roland asked Lord Oberyn as the knights approached the hill and got into position. "There are men of the Seven amongst their ranks that should know they raise their swords against their gods and not just the Dornish. Baratheon is a true believer and I wish for him to see our banners clearly when the charge comes to know where his heart truly lies."

He dismounts from his horse after taking up a position near the front, keeping out of sight without dampening his own. He readies a crossbow bolt, the shaft made of oak and tipped with a heavy sharpened iron tip, made to pierce plate and flesh alike, and takes his crossbow from his horse before sending it further back. He drifts his eyes across the enemy forces, straining to spot Lord Morrigen.

OOC: Yeah Yronwood is in charge for this one, but I think that's the gameplan. Do as much damage to Morrigen as possible in hopes of killing him or rendering him unable command. Slow them down at the very least. As you know from experience, a marching army tends to slow to a crawl when they need to be cautious for ambushes. Then getting the hell out of dodge before they can react properly. I don't think anyones' special abilities come into play for this battle, though I don't think Drell has one yet.

The Ambush: Defender takes 25% more losses.
Round 1:
Lord Yronwood (+50 for knights): 90/220 (Dead) Ser William: 166 (Lance) Ser Roland: 137 (Lance) Maconis: 129 (Sword...cannot fire a crossbow during a giant cavalry charge)
Stormlands:
Morrigen: 139/135 Rykker: 203
The ambush is House Yronwood's finest hour...at least initially. The Stormlanders are caught flat-footed, no pikes readied, and the blow hits them so hard that hundreds die in the first savage minute. As he sails through the lines, effortlessly killing, Lord Oberyn Bloodroyal looks about, and sees a giant sword swing through the air. It is the last thing he ever sees.
About him, the cavalry turns about, hacking and slashing, and fighting on, but with no other leaders in the army, they cannot survive. Shock and horror of their assault keeps them on their feet for over a half hour, and when all is said and done, three hundred men are dead before the remainder surrender, when they are mostly pulled off horses and being beaten on the ground, their lack of plate allowing the smaller hits to add up more quickly.
Faith/Dorne: 0 (200 alive) Stormlands: 5800 (1000 dead, 1400 wounded)

Ser Roland surrenders himself to the mercy of his foes after three men pull him from his horse into the chaos below. He had seen Yronwood fall to Rykker's blade and his heart was heavy. The knight could feel the hair shirt he wore soaked with blood and gore that was not his own.

Ser Willem Selmy, an old acquaintance from way back in their squire years, takes his sword. He looks about the battlefield, at the hundreds of dead. "Well met, Roland." He runs his hand through his hair and lets out a breath. The adrenaline wears off quickly, after a real battle, and it leaves everyone tired and sluggish. "I wish...it were under better circumstances."

Drell: 70 Concealment + 67
While the fighting goes south, Drell is able to find a fallen footman's cloak and wrap it about himself, and his Braavosi heritage makes him look like another sellsword hired for the fight.
