A small, isolated palace, walled in for the royal family's personal use.

Shrinessa and Arania and her guards arrive at the small (relatively) palace, and she skips in. The guards are forced to wait outside, under a pavilion, but they have cold water ad food. Shrinessa breezily heads right through the art and decor, and straight to a library bigger than any Arania has seen outside the Hightower and the Citadel. It is far more esoteric, as well; paper fares much better in the oppressively hot and dry desert air than the often humid Oldtown summers.
"What do you want to read?"

Arania's eyes gleamed jealously. She was sure they had texts she had never even laid eyes on before. "Oh, I want to read everything, don't you?" She licked her lips, her cares slowly being forgotten. Walking to the nearest shelf, she picked up the first book that her hand came upon.

She can't read it. It is stamped with a map, but the western edge of the paper is the Straits of Qarth. Her next try nets her a book on the history of the Valyrian/Ghiscari wars, which she is of course familiar with in passing, but she has never seen this particular volume, which covers only the first two...and may in fact predate the other three.

"Very interesting..." Both of the books were. And the one with the map was all the more tantalizing because she couldn't understand. The second one concerned a topic that she had only grazed the surface of. Immediately opening it, she began reading, moving as if hypnotized to the nearest chair to sit down with her treasure.

Two bottles of wine appear next to her as though by magic, though she is already forty pages in, so it may in fact have been over the course of an hour or so. The old text is difficult in places, but the outlines are clear enough, and the historian writes of the second war as though he had fought in it on the backs of one of the great beasts. Shrinessa is reading next to her, the Qartheen map book.

Arania looked up from the riveting narrative, looking over at Shrinessa. She glanced at the wine, then out the window. The sun had definitely moved a fair bit. "How long have we been sitting here?" She poured some wine, drinking it down in big gulps. "You can read that?" She peered over, studying the words and images. "What language is it?"

"Qartheen. But it's reeeaaaalllly dry. Unnecessarily so, to be talking about the wonders of the Jade Sea." She smiles. "I've been there...father took me on my tenth name day on Rhaegys."

"Yet another place I have never been, and another language I do not know." She sighed, disappointed to know less than the little girl. "You know, your uncle...Prince Aenys...he said I could ride the dragon when I came. I'd really like to take him up on that offer."

"You wanna ride Rhaegys?! It's soo fun! You should go ask my father! Uncle Aenys is back in Yunkai, or maybe Conquest Keep with the visiting warriors. Cassana is good, but she isn't my father when it comes to flying. He can even make him fly upside down," she says, seriously.

Arania furrowed her brows. "I suppose I should. Not that I would want to fly upside down! That would be too terrifying! But I really do want to, though." She licked her lips, wondering if the King would even see her. "Alright. Can I take this book? I'm going to go ask if I can go flying."

"Sure, take the book! We can come back anytime too!" She stands up and gets ready to skip off with her.
The guards look thankful to finally be ready to move...it's blasted hot outside.

"Oh, thank you. Let's be off, then." She let the girl lead the way, as she seemed to prefer to, skipping along and making Arania move faster than she would like in the desert heat trying to keep up.

They reach the pyramid in a short time, and Shrinessa grins. "He's probably in his chambers now." She giggles innocently. "I think you know where those are."

Seven hells, did everyone know about that? "You're not coming, Shrinessa?" She shrugged and began the long ascent. "Wish me luck, then. I'll see you later."
