"Lord Stafford says you are to marry Prince Benjen Stark," the messenger says. "He demands you head to Riverrun immediately."

Joanna blinked. "And how has this come to be?" she inquired cautiously.

"Prince Stark has surrendered, or something. I'm not sure, my lady," the man says. "But you need to come now."

She raised a skeptical eyebrow. "Sure, let me just pack my coffers and we can go," she said dryly, and gave the man a once-over. Apparently convinced that he had indeed been sent by her father, she relented. "We can leave in the evening. Can you not see I'm reading?" she asked with an unpleasant smile, even though she had already closed the book. There were obviously other things she needed to do first.

The man shrugs. "We have to leave within the hour, my lady." Another few guardsmen show up to escort her. "My head is not worth your ability to finish your book."

That seemed to anger her, and she rose. "Is your head worth your insolence? I am not a sheep you can herd off to another pasture whenever you feel like. I have to wrap up some loose ends and organize my retinue, if my father says I am to wed the prince. We will leave when I am ready. Now get out of my room and do something useful if you want me to leave this place faster, like ready my horse or the like," she snapped.

The guard flees. An hour or so later, another guard knocks. "My lady! Lord Stafford is dead! King Brynden stricken!" No one seems excited to share the news with the angry lioness.

Meanwhile, Arthur Banefort had been summoned to the room in case Joanna had to deal with the audacious guard again. He stood from his chair, but the aforementioned lioness raised a hand to stop him. She paled visibly. "How has this come to pass?" she asked, her anger seemingly dissipated.

"A reachman, milady, he tried to kill the king...but he killed Lord Stafford. A fight broke out. The king is wounded, but the archer was slain...it is a disaster."

"Did it come to a battle?" she asked quickly. "What of my brother? Is he alive and well?"

"There was no battle. The negotiations continued as normal, my lady." The guard seems to have little omre to add.

"Very well, then," she said in dismissal, furrowing her brow at the guard's vague reply, and lack thereof about her brother. The negotiations continuing as normal after something like this seemed peculiar at least, and she wondered if that meant she was still to marry the Stark. She turned to Arthur. "Be a dear and let the guard from before know we are of course postponing the departure until I hear more."
He nodded and left to comply.
