Reyna had to laugh at that comment.
"Oh yes. It's as if men don't believe that ladies want to talk about anything besides their own looks. Flattery is all very well, and most welcome, but it would be dull to talk of nothing but beauty," she said.

"Indeed, so what would you prefer to talk about. Dawn here has been ever so eager to make small talk. Please steer our conversation in a direction more meaningful to you." Everyone at the table stares at her with teasing puppy-dog eyes.

She smiled slightly.
"Let us discuss...hmm, let's see. Do any of you have a favourite hero from the olden days?"

Kal lifted his mug and proclaimed. "I am Kal Stark, grandson to Lord Rickon Stark of Winterfell...and I am my own legendary hero! I have fought clansmen, Ironborn, wildlings, faced down with the traitors of the Night's Watch and fought an hour-long duel with Malik Greyjoy himself!"
Fyodor Dustin puts his head in his hand and shakes it gently. "Why did you get him started? The only thing he likes more than women is himself." Kal beams.
"But there is ever-so-much to like!"

Reyna burst into laughter.
"That's cheating! You're not allowed to name yourself! Few people are legends in their own lifetime. And you have many years yet to live, I'm sure, so we won't have a full picture of your deeds while you live."

Kal rolls his eyes. "Fine...my real hero is my grandfather...but he's still alive too. Why respect someone so much who you never knew? most of those passed-down tales are embellished or outright lies, I'm sure."
Dawn shrugs. "He has a point. I strongly doubt Lann the Clever really gambled for Casterly Rock. What would you even put for collateral against that?"

"I've no idea." Reyna said. "Perhaps Lann the Clever had a castle of his own. Or perhaps the Casterleys were simply foolish. I know the old tales are embellished, but I love them all the same. Life just seems so much more exciting in the Age of Heroes. At least I think so."

"Said by someone who needs to taste some adventure in her own life, I think." Dustin comments. "There's legends in the making all around us. For instance, Kal's battle with Greyjoy lasted ten minutes. He's twenty-five, and it's already up to an hour. I bet by the time he's seventy, he'll say that the duel had just ended ten minutes before he told his grandchildren the story."
Kal shrugs. "It will end one day..."

"Oh, well, all tales grow in the telling. "But you are right," she agreed with Dustin. "My life hasn't been very adventures. But I'm only nineteen so perhaps my time will come."

"Well, I suggest an adventure, then. Night riding?" Dustin looks around with a mischievous grin. Dawn shrugs in agreement.

"Oh."
Reyna began to look uncomfortable and her cheeks were slightly flushed.
"That would be good if only I was a confident rider. There isn't much chance to ride in the Iron Islands, and never proper horses, only ponies, really. I can ride a little but I don't think I could in the dark."

Dawn grabs Kal's hand. "Pillion it is then! Master Dustin, if you could show the lady the finer points of sitting a horse..."
Dustin extends a hand. "If it wouldn't disturb the lady, I think I can manage that."

"Let us proceed," Amelia says as she rose, holding a hand out to Arania. "Come, my dear. Unless of course you wish to remain here, where it is safe." Arania had to admit she was curious. It was always her curiosity which got her in the most trouble, too, she thought as she found herself agreeing to tag along. "I might as well," she said, rising and giving Catherine a pitying look to be left behind. She wondered momentarily why she was being invited along by this girl she had only just met, but decided it would be harmless enough, aside from the danger in sneaking into the camp of the Ironmen.

Catherine makes an annoyed face and orders another drink. "Have fun then ladies!"

"If it wouldn't disturb the lady, I think I can manage that." Reyna slipped her hand into Dustin's. "That sounds fine to me. I promise I won't scream or fall or anything foolish."
