Character's Personal History:
The early life of the man that would become Ghaston the Grey is unknown, even his age just guessed. His life, as it is known, began upon a coastal road near the castle of Stonehelm. It was there that High Septon Warren, then just a travelling septon, chanced upon a bedraggled man washed up by the tide. The man was half-dead, malnourished, dressed in torn rags, with deep criss-crossing scars covering his chest and back. The man seemed crazed, only able to mutter the words "Ghaston Grey" over and over again in a maddened chant.
Though most would have left the pitiful creature for dead, Warren practiced the charity taught by the Seven and dragged him to a nearby hovel for care. For weeks he prayed over the man, feeding him light broth and dripping fresh water into his mouth. The septon prayed ceaselessly by the man's bedside. Miraculously, one night the patient stopped his ceaseless chants of "Ghaston Grey", instead joining the septon in prayer to the Seven. Though he was nursed back to health physically, the man had no memory of his life before being discovered on the shore, not even his own name. The only hint as to his identity came from reports that the warden of Ghaston Grey had been slain by an escaping prisoner, the first sucesfful attempt in the prison's long and dark history. Warren was pleased to find out the man was educated, with knowledge of reading, writing, and the noble customs.
With no name, the man took on the mantle of Ghaston the Grey. As pennance for the life saved and the likely sins of his past life, Ghaston pledged his life to the Seven and accompanied the septon on his travels. One day, the pair were assaulted on the road by a group of bandits. Disarming one outlaw and taking his sword, Ghaston fought them off with the skill of a knight. With the vague memory that he had once stood vigil and sworn the oaths, Ghaston became Ser Ghaston the Grey.
The two travelled for some years, becoming close friends. When the septon ended his travels to head a large sept, Ser Ghaston joined the Warrior's Sons. He showed incredible skill with a blade, a keen tactical mind, and a fervent devotion to the Seven few in the order could match. When Septon Warren became High Septon, he made his trusted friend and protector Knight-Commander of the Faith Militant.
In the years since, Ser Ghaston the Grey has become a man feared by the enemies of the Seven. Near countless bandits and heretics have fallen to his crystal pommeled longsword. He leads the shining knights of the Warrior's Sons, the sword of rainbow light in a world growing darker by the day.
Character's Physical Description:
Ser Ghaston's appearance gives little away regarding his nationality; his fair complextion common throughout Westeros. His hair and beard whitened long ago, likely prematurely due to the harsh conditions of his imprisonment. His back and chest are covered in long criss-crossing scars, a testament to his treatment at Ghaston Grey. The first wrinkles have begun to appear at the corners of piercing and intelligent eyes. He stands tall and proud; cutting a striking figure in the silver inlaid plate and rainbow cloak of the Warrior's Sons.
Character's Reputation:
The First Sword of the Warriors Sons and Champion of the Faith, Ser Ghaston is known as an extremely pious and devout man. His unwavering devotion to the Seven and renown skill with a blade have made him the bane of heathens and outlaws alike. He is a competent commander, often leading from the front to be the first to bring the sword to the enemies of the Faith.
Character's Special Ability:
True Believers: When Knight-Commander Ghaston leads an army of Warrior's Sons, they do not have to make a rally check until they fall below 50% strength
