Benjen held the dagger, stared at it while Bolton talked. "Meraxes? Wasn't that the name of one of the Targaryen dragons?" He shrugged. "The whole goddess thing is no news to me; the witch in the Vale told me very much the same. Perhaps we should head to the God's Eye then and lay a tr... just go there and hope it's not too late."

"The dragon was named after the goddess, from what I understand. Vhagar, Meraxes, and Balerion were the three main gods of their pantheon." He frowned. "Perhaps we should."

"We've plenty of good men who fought with me in the Vale to help out," Benjen said. "Though we should probably make our way under cover of night. Nothing too obvious."

Malryas shrugs. "If Cassadar comes this close to Eddard's Rest, he'll suspect a trap everywhere he moves. According to the sorcerer, though, they are still missing something. Something they are searching for desperately."

"And what do you think it could be? Another sacrifice?" Benjen asked, handing back the dagger to Bolton.

"Probably. A focus for a final ritual to...end the goddess's power foreer, they said." Malryas frowned. "I've ad four of my finest operatives trailing your wife, and two each on your sisters but they've seen no sign of a threat."

"Really? Now that is as surprise... I would think Cassadar would go after someone close to me," Benjen scratched his beard. "Maybe they are waiting for the last minute to move."

"Or they aren't sure quite what they feel they need, yet," Malryas said. "He's always proven willing to play the waiting game if required." He leaned back. "I heard you brought back a guest from Dorne."

"Ah, yes... Ellaria Dayne," Benjen said. "The rightful heir to Starfall, at least according to Dornish Law. I am not entirely sure what to do with her."

"Lord Bryce can hardly ask for her back," Malryas chuckled. "We can worry about her later, I think. Perhaps she can be of use sometime."

"In what capacity? Although, I will leave that to you." Benjen scratched his beard again and yawned. "I haven't been getting enough sleep since leaving the Vale. We shall we ready ourselves to take Cassadar down?"

"I'll send an advance team to the God's Eye; we know it better than he will. It's hard to say when he'll show up. We need bait, ideally, but the cost is too high for such."

"Bait? I don't like the sound of that, Malryas," Benjen said, shaking his head. "And please don't tell me you want it to be Catherine."

Malryas arches an eyebrow. "Of course not." He grins. "I was thinking of using you."

"Me? How very droll," Benjen retorted. "Do I look like some doe-eyed maiden wandering around in some place I definitely shouldn't be?" He snorted.
