The North
Formed of the Riverlands, the Old North, and the Vale, the Kingdom of the North is ruled from Eddard's Rest, a small city built near the remains of the fallen castle of Harrenhal. Their warriors are hardy and well-trained along the frequently contested southern borders, and the skill of their generals is envied across the land. However, in the Riverlands and Vale, increasing tensions have risen between those who took the worship of the gods of the First Men, and those who still light candles to the Seven. In the North, whispers rise of a wildling lord who is uniting, slowly, the myriad forces beyond the Wall. Organized raids bypassing the Night's Watch have grown frequent, and old Lord Rickon, while still brilliant and powerful, will not be around to lead Winterfell forever...
Update as of 382. The North now possesses Duskendale.
The Goldlands
Founded by Lord Tywin Lannister and Lord Mace Tyrell upon the wedding of King Joffrey Lannister and Queen Margaery Tyrell, the Goldlands consists of the Reach and the West, excepting the castle of Tumbleton, lost to King Stannis Baratheon, and Fair Isle, lost to Lord Captain Victarian Greyjoy. Wealthy and heavily populated, the Goldlands can bring an army to bear that could potentially face any two other kingdoms. Their navy is strong and well-led, their standing army well-trained and possessed of a powerful force of cavalry. The Goldlands suffer, however, from sharing a border with every other kingdom, leanding them to attack from any direction, and the lords of the Reach are notoriously fickle when their pride is impugned, leading some to question how effective a full mobilization would be. With King Kyle Lannister leading them into glory, however, the Goldlands remains the predominant force on the continent.
Update: King Rycherd Tyrell now rules the Reach south of the Mander, whilst King Brynden rules north, and, prior to its conquest, the Arbor.
The Kingsland
The conquest of King's Landing by King Stannis Baratheon and the subsequent removal of other forces from the area led to the formation of the Kingsland. It runs from the Marches to Crackclaw Point, from Tumbleton to Dragonstone, and includes the majority of the Stepstones as well. The Kingsland has the realm's busiest port in King's Landing, and to make up for a poor continental position they have compensated by forming alliances with many of the Free Cities for economic and naval support. Their land forces are considerable, however, including the largest standing army in the kingdom, funded by the brilliant Lord of King's Landing, Felix "Six-Finger" Florent. However, as in the North, the increasing prevalence of the Red God over the Seven has many seething as the intolerance and misunderstanding on both sides grows deeper and deeper.
As of 382: The Kingsland has been conquered by Dorne and insurgency. King Bryce Dayne rules.
The Iron Islands
Much the same as it has been for centuries, the Iron Islands remain the single strongest naval force in Westeros, and their strength has grown with the possession of Flint's Finger and Fair Isle. Reaving is common along the coasts of all the kingdoms, as single raiders look to make their mark, and larger attacks by groups of ships still plague Dorne, the Goldlands and the North. They do, however, serve as a check to any force seeking to attain complete control of the continent, as their powerful fleet can land a fierce if modest army almost anywhere in a matter of weeks.
Update: Iron Islands now owns the Arbor, the Shields, and Ferrous Keep via Uhtred Farwynd.
Dorne
Isolated both racially and geographically from their neighbors, Dorne continues on as it has, keeping its rivals at arm's length via the Marches. They remain masters of defensive warfare, but whispers have arisen that the Lord of Starfall, Bryce Dayne, resents being ruled by a weakling Prince and a thirdborn Princess, and the tales told of him throughout the kingdom have left many naming him the Sword of Mourning. However, his effective leadership has forced back three Goldlands armies, and his presence remains invaluable to the security of Dorne. Princess Nalya has also maintained friendly terms with the North in order to keep the powerful Kingsland in check.
Update: King Bryce Dayne rules Dorne and the Kingsland now, unopposed save for the recalcitrant Lord Qorgyle, and the renegade Stormalander Ser Jonarth Storm, the Vulture King.
