"Sometimes," Morgan said. "Usually some come from the lord's castle, and then those villages you passed through getting here. Every now and again a merchant ship might dock, too, because this becomes the biggest village for a hundred miles for the weeks of the harvest," he said. "Where have you seen action?" The food comes out, hot and good and just what the knight needed. The ale is warm but not uncomfortably so. Philip ate ravenously. "It's good." he said between mouthfuls. "Where have I served? Wherever there's been a war in the last thirteen years. Fought up north against the undead, when I was nineteen. Also been to the Free Cities. Also in the campaign against the Stormlands."

Morgan nodded. "Quite some world we've been living in," he agreed. "You're coming at tax season," he said, "so tensions are rather high. I expect my lord's sons to be down soon to inform us of the damage." He sipped his ale. "But the festival will bring in some other hedge Knights, hopefully."

"So this festival has events, men of a martial nature can enter?" Asked Philip. "A melee. Archery and the like?"

"Archery," the knight said, "and some unarmed combat type stuff. We don't have enough warriors here to do a proper melee." He shrugged. "They'd probably pay to see you quintain, though. I'm too old for all that now, and my knees aren't what they were."

"Pay me or pay you?" said Philip. He gave a bark of laughter to indicate that he wasn't being serious.

"You know what taxes are," he grinned. "It is just whether you smell the money before we get it," he shook his head. "There are a few veterans who can fight. The best is named Harris. He might duel for the crowd."

Philip nodded. "I'll get someone to point him out to me. We might be able to entertain the crowd a bit and get some practice in at the same time."

Morgan nodded. "Sounds like a fine idea. Everyone knows him so it shouldn't be difficult to find him. Everyone will be in the same place the next few days anyway."

"I look forward to it." replied Philip. He poured himself a cup of ale and raised it in salute.

Ser Morgan salutes. "To guests," he said. "Oh," he added, after the drink was taken, "be a bit wary around Harris and his boys. They don't bother good honest village folk, but rumors about that they aren't exactly sheep either. Some of'em never came back from the war all the way, ye know? Not their minds, at least."

"I'll keep that in mind." said Philip, not looking too concerned. "Where did Harris and his men serve?"

"Harris was at Myr," Morgan said, "his friends were n and out, mostly guarding against the Ironborn at castles on the coast." He shook his head. "Myr must have been a hell of a thing."

Philip nodded. "We assaulted the city under Cedric Dayne and Hector Stark." There was a strange look on his face and his eyes glittered as he said both names.

"I heard the fighting was fierce." Morgan nodded as he finished eating, "Fortunately haven't had anything like that lately. I did hear the Queen is working with the North to finish the Iron Islands off once and for all. They've been rebelling since their old king died." He grinned. "I'd come out of retirement for that party."
