"I am well aware of what he's done," Benjen stated, his eyes still on the kids playing. "I'm guessing you won't be here for the tourney then."

"I'm not getting married," Kalvin said. "And who'd join a tourney if I was on the lists anyway?"

"Only me," Benjen said. "And now I'd be the one kicking your ass, unlike back when you trained me," he added, grinning at Kal.

Kalvin just looked at him. "Well, the world may never know," he said. "You have grown more skilled than I ever thought possible." He flexed his hand. "But of course I'd let you win so you could look good in front of your blushing bride to be," he said.

"There's been plenty of wars for me to practice," Benjen commented. "But from the looks of it my son is going to be far more impressive a fighter than either of us." He thought for a moment before turning towards the keep. "I'd best go say hello to my daughter."

"Only if he reins his anger," Kalvin said. "I never fight angry. Frances fought angry. Euric Greyjoy fought angry. Markus Dayne...same thing." He pushed a lack of hair back from his eyes. "That's why they died." The game ends, and the lord heads to his own manor in the city.

Elissa strolled casually into the yard. She had her sword at her hip and was clothed in leather breeches and a loose linen shirt, her hair tied back behind her head. She looked confident and comfortable, more so than she did when dressed in fine clothes.

In the yard she saw what was undeniably a woman after her own heart. The woman was younger than she was, but other than that she could almost be related in terms of looks.
That not withstanding though, the younger woman was beating up men in the yard like a pro. Quick and controlled and right now taking no prisoners.
After two more rounds with some men, who were easily dispatched, the woman held up a hand to cease and then left the fenced off area and went to get some water.
She looked at the woman with the sword and took a long drink.
"Not too often do I come across other woman here carrying weapons others can see here." she said in way of greeting.

Elissa laughed. "I know the feeling! You get the occasional female mercenary in the East but in Westeros we're even less common than that."
She knew from the woman's voice that she was highborn, and likely a Northerner and that made her wonder if the women of the North were held to the same behavioural codes as the women of the Goldlands.
"Might I have the honour of your name? I'm Elissa Costayne. I'm married to Lord Rowan of Goldengrove." She offered a hand in greeting.

The other woman looked at the hand then grinned up at Elissa, "Pleasure. My name is Robyn Stark. I am married to Lord Kalvin Stark of Winterfell. This is my brothers keep." she said, looking up at the huge towers of Eddard's Rest. "I did not think Southern Lords let their wives go round with swords picking fights."

Elissa returned Robyn's grin. "Tom had no choice. I already knew how to fight before I married him, and he still asked me rather than some dainty creature who would rather spend her days sewing. My grandsire wasn't too happy about it, but there's a wild streak in our family and we've the sea in our blood."
She paused to brush a speck of lint off her shirt. "Ought I call you Princess, then? I'd not wish to cause offence. This castle is splendid, truly, though I'll admit to a preference for Goldengrove and Three Towers."

'No, you do not need to. I find the title comes with a lot of baggage I do not need. Most people still use it, and I have given up trying to get them to stop, but just Robyn is fine, Elissa."
She looked up at the tower, in the direction of the King's Chambers, but she was not thinking of her brother but her late father. "My father thought it was a phase I would grow out of, but I never did, and who is going to ridicule the daughter of the king?" she asked with a soft laugh like she was remembering a fond memory. "You say you have the sea in your blood? Sounds like something an Ironborn might spout."

Elissa's smile widened but there was a hint of sadness in her eyes as well as she thought of the mother she had not seen in many years.
"So it is. My mother was born a Farwynd of the Lonely Light. They do fealty to the Greyjoys, but Mother claimed they were remote from their fellows and had few dealings with them. My father loves the sea as much as I do, and he's as much a Reachman as anybody else in the region. He's much more accepting of my ways than my grandsire, though of course the people of Three Towers liked to claim I inherited bad blood from my mother." She shrugged. "Nobody dares say that now, of course. I find that a sword at my hip and ships at my command go a long way towards forcing people to accept what I am. Though some men will not believe a woman capable of sword work without seeing the proof of it. Do you find that too, Robyn?"

"Alas, I have done enough now that my reputation rather precedes me," she said it almost regretfully, "But being a woman is the best disguise when I am places I am not known. Especially when you are as little as I am. People do not think you can be of much danger, but the deadliest scorpions are not the big black brutes, but the little pale ones" she grinned.
"You must be happy now then, that your people and the Ironborn are allied?" she asked, crossing her arms.

"Happy enough so long as they keep their word. I've no real liking for the Ironborn people, truly, so time will tell. I've never even met my mother's kin, let alone the Greyjoys or their close allies. Have you? Are they as fearsome as history suggests?"
